Hi Members, Technical question please. So I have a 351c D0AE Block I'm rebuilding. Dated May 1971 now Bored to 20 thou over. 4MA Crank Both 20 thou over. Cleaned up the DOAE Conrods and replaced Rod bolts with Arp Wave lock Bolts. Hydraulic D0AE-N Heads put in New one piece SS Valves, springs, guides, seals etc. Standard Hydraulic motor not a racer, just a weekend driver. What pistons should I go with please any suggestions would be appreciated thanks, Monty
 
Lots of good piston choices Monty. Based on the info you provided on your mild build, anything from hyperutectic cast (KB is one mfg.) to an "off the shelf" forged 4032 high silicon (Autotec is one choice). Do some research and feel free to call various piston manufacturers for their input. I've personally used Ross, KB, Race-tec/Auto-tec, and J-E with good results.
 
Far from being an engine expert, but as I see you have a set of "N" heads, I might suggest the same pistons I had put in my motor with GA heads. When I had the motor rebuilt the first time, the builder installed KB flat top pistons. Apart from another issue which caused a second rebuild, the flat top pistons along with block and head truing, put the comp ratio a tad too high for 91 octane gas (best non-ethanol I can get). My choice was to install KB 13cc dish top pistons, which drop the comp ratio to about 10:1 ( just to keep it simple). With proper timing etc. etc. I'm pretty happy with the results for a weekend or "drive on days beginning with "S" car".
However, what I'm not sure about without checking, is are they available .020" over size? Mine are .030" oversize. One other consideration with KB pistons is the "pin height" is .020" higher than the stock pistons. That needs to be taken into account. With this in mind, my motor, with block truing ended up at zero deck height.

EDIT:
Looking at UEM Piston website, makers of KB pistons, they do not seem to list the KB148 pistons I'm referring to. However Summit Racing do list them and in .020' oversize, BUT special order.

I suggest have the block "squared-up" left to right and front to back. Then have them accurately measure the block deck height. With that information you can select a piston with an appropriate wrist pin location. I always try for .000 piston deck height, + or - .005. I use the Diamond Piston calculator for determining static compression ratio. You will need to know chamber volume if you want to be precise. Chuck

Have been offered these pistons , but someone suggested they were truck engine. Not what I need ? Any thoughts I just don't quite understand the compression ratio bit by boring the block 20 thou over.

I'm afraid I'm a bit of a hurricane lamp sometimes, Not real bright and you have to carry me

I found this info online. NOTE it says .060" offset pin. I'm not sure exactly what that means unless all Cleveland pistons are offset.
Beware of ordering off ebay. I'd rather buy from a know distributor like Summit Racing or Rock Auto etc. Just my opinion.

I tried to link but it didn't work, search UEM Pistons 1146+.020
