Just looking to add Ram Air to my 1973 Q code 351 Cleveland convertible. It has probably been discussed a lot and I have watched the NPD videos. Just wondering if there is a list of exactly what parts to order. The Hood is a NACA hood purchased from NPD about 20 years ago. Has screw holes for mounting the Plenum. Should I get parts from them or Ohio mustang? or somewhere else?

Thanks
Stan

One of the best Ford/Mercury & Mustang channels on YTube is Jeff Ford's under the name Autorestomod. In Episode 536 they show how to install the flat wire hood springs and the complete ram air assembly on their 1972 Mach 1. There is also a short discussion on why Ford didn’t have Ram Air on the 351 4V and the 351 HO in 1972 and the 351 4V in 1973. The parts list is from NPD, copied from Jeff's video. Don @ OMS is also a great source if the parts are available. You can also piece it together as I did with some restored parts from members and some repro parts from OMS and NPD.

Also episode 474 shows how to install hood locks https://youtu.be/b-TtSjB_aFc

Dude nice car and color combination. I would lose that grill and put the Mach1 type in. I too have a 73 Q code convertible with the same paint and stripe treatment.

Thanks, it would b nice to see pic of your car.

Something to note is the carburetor sits higher on a 73 due to the EGR plate, and the factory air cleaners were adjusted to suit. If your EGR plate is gone, then no worries.
Thanks I will check to see if the EGR plate is gone.

You will also need the following highlighted parts in the PDF to fit out the air cleaner assembly. also a connecting hose from the right rear valve cover PCV vent to the PCV intake filter that mounts inside the air cleaner and also the vacuum actuated temp sensor and the 3/4 inch flex hose connector that attaches to the outside of the air cleaner to the charcoal canister. The hose can be purchased online at WCCC, eBay, etc. You'll also need a 45 degree elbow for the PCV connection to the right rear valve cover. The temp sensor vacuum connections T into the vac line from the intake tree connector to the hood actuators. The other vac connector connects to the vent actuator on the schnorkel.

These may be of some help....

Here are some notes I made back in the day when restoring my 73 vert.

Air Cleaner Snorkel Part numbers....

D2AF-9D626-?? - 72 351C Air Cleaner part number ID

D3AF-9C672-AA-2FE - NOS in box. The 2FE represents the date code as in 1972 June 5th week

D3AF-9C672-AC-3EB - 351C with A/C From the copper car. The 3EB represents the date code as in 1973 May 2nd week

D3AF-9C672-AA-2GD - MUSTANG 351C 2V

D3AF-9C672-AA-2LC (Date?)

DZAE-9C672-AA-7GD - 351C 1972-78

D7ZE-9D626-AA-6GB - 351C FORD MUSTANG AIR CLEANER SNORKEL. Snorkel Actuator has a brown stripe

D2ZF-9C672-AA 72 351C 4v CJ

Replacement Snorkel Actuator - CX-120 D7TZ-9D612-B Motor Assy S4 Has a Brown Stripe

Correct filter element height for 71 Mustang w 351C Ram Air - The 71-72 ram air used the C8AZ-9601-A (Motorcraft FA50) which was replaced in 1977 by D7AZ-9601-A (Motorcraft FA612-R). Both are 2.8" high. In 1973 Ford changed the ram air filter to the B7SZ-9601-A (Motorcraft FA41) which is shorter at 2.1"-2.2" high. The change to the shorter filter may of been due to the 2bl carburation or the addition of the EGR plate.

Air Cleaner height with after-market intake and carb - I have a 351c 2v that has been changed to a 4bbl Holley and Edelbrock intake. I want to add the Ram Air to the car- If it's an RPM one then it won't fit from what I understand. If using a performer you shouldn't have a problem. I have an Edelbrock Performer intake and Holley Street Avenger with ram air setup. No issues whatsoever.

For parts numbers the -C is listed as a 351 2V without ram air and nox application. The -A is for the 351 2V without ram air but with nox application

As stated earlier the carb sits to high, so I had a thinner billet plate machined to replace the EGR plate cover the channel in the intake nicely and lower the carb, I could then use my K&N filter.

Do I’m getting ready to start ordering the parts to add ram air to my 1973 “Q” 351 Cleveland that was restored about 20 years ago. Appreciate any advice.

The 351 Cleveland originally came with a motorcraft 4 barrel carb. I had it rebuilt and still have it in a box. See pics. Replaced it with a holly carb. See pics. Also replaced the hood with a reproduction NPD hood which was all I could find at the time. Photos of everything, with the help of members here I have put this list of parts together from NPD.
How does the list it look?

Should I try to find some “original” parts if possible. For example some have said the repro plenums are lower quality today.
I have found this plenum from a guy that says it is original and “mint”. Should I purchase it instead of a new one from NPD. He wants $375.
