The width of the tire is dependent on the width of the wheel. Each wheel width has a narrow range of tires that will fit it. General rule of thumb is that the wheel width is 75% of the tire section width, but will vary somewhat by aspect ratio and tire manufacturer. The tire manufacturer will specify required wheel width. To get the section width of the tire, in inches, divide the size (width) by 25.4. So, the 235 millimeter width tire is 9,25 inches wide, which requires a wheel width of around 7 inches.
