I can see how it could have hit over a quarter million. Our 73 deep restoration took over 6 figures to bring back from Rust Hell. We did it right, resectioning new metal while keeping as much of the original metal as possible. Amazingly, the underside and floor pans were in near perfect condition. The car used to sit undriven for months at a time (sailor owned it, and he spent a lot of time on the high seas) atVirginia Beach. Apparently the salty air and moisture wound up in the deep crevices, hidden by trim pieces. This video is made from a collection of videos taken during the restoration progress. in the earlier photos you will seed how deep the rust went. But, we did not give up on the car. No expense was spared, as we did not care how much was going into it vs what its market value is. We wanted to do right by the car, for love of the breed.

And here is a walk-around video of the completed car following over 13 1/2 months of intense work.

Anyway, yeah, I get the passion. We later popped in an AOD to replace the original C4. The original base 302 2v was previously replaced with a 1994 F-150 351W (not C) built for street.strip performance. On the dyno it puts out 360 HP. the rear axle gears were replaced with a 3.5:1 TractionLok set of gears. It runs great, and the AOD gives it longs legs at the higher speeds. The engine has plenty of torque to overcome air resistance at those higher speeds. With a Classic Air A/C installed it is one very slick cruising car.

With all the things we did to our 73 Mach 1 (lots of tasteful upgrades) we "get" Emily's passion for her Mach 1. Were it not for ur 1969 Shelby GT500, and our 2020 Shelby GT500, the 73 Mach 1 would be my favorite car ever.
