I didn’t own a 71-73 but I did have in my opinion two of Fords hottest and rare cars.
In 1977, I bought a 70 Torino Cobra, 429SCJ 4 spd. I was 18 yo at the time. I paid $1175 for it with 77k miles.
In 1978, I bought a 69 Boss 429 with just under 14k miles. The engine had been built by Holmon and Moody. It had the NASCAR rods, intake and exhaust valves, 12.5:1 compression, headers, 8qt pan. It was KK1713.

That Torino was awesome! I wanted to buy one when I was sixteen. An old couple traded one in to the dealership I worked as a porter at, it was red with the black on the hood. The Used Car manager (my dad) wouldn't let me buy it, saying he didn't want that old junk in his driveway. The next day he sold it to a wholesaler who he believed when he told him that it was rare and had a special engine in it. He thought I didn't know what I was talking about when I told him the same thing the night before. Oh well, maybe someday I will find one I can afford, probably not.

Nice new color choice RD-72. Interesting how our cars (and us owners) evolve over the years, i.e - jack-up in back and mud flaps. I did the same thing circa 1970's: air shocks and mud flaps.

First time I got to drive a '71-73 Mustang was in the early 80s. An owner of a local Ford dealer loaned his immaculate convertible to my Dad for a parade. Got to drive him and my future wife on a nice sunny day. Next time I drove one was in 2013 after I purchased my current Mach1.

thx, I almost bought a 68 mustang vert j code earlier in 2018, as I was having a tough time finding a reputable/honest body shop that I felt comfortable with.
the 68 was “Brittany blue” and I really liked the color
although not a stock color in 72, I went with that

Back in the day, mud flaps and air shocks were “must haves”
not so much anymore (and the car doesn’t see snow anymore)

Yeah, I picked up a 70 Torino fastback with a boss 302, bright bumble bee yellow from a Michigan diesel mechanic for $700 back in '79. Cars were soo inexpensive back then.

What is the tire/wheel size combo is on your car?

The PO put N50-15s on the rear (old school like we did in the late 70s-early 80s) and some wide front tires on, I think I replaced them with 215/75/15s on the front.

Found a few pics of my second 71 sportsroof, that I had rebuilt as a 351C-4V, 4spd, 3.70 TracLoc car. Paid $200 for it painted, but needing everything else in 1995. Built this car completely out of my parts stash. Lots of good times in this one. Sold it to a guy in NJ in late 1997, he sent me these in a Christmas card. Last pic in yellow is after he had the car restored at Glazier's Mustang Barn and spent a ton of money on it.
