I'll be putting new tires on the Mach 1 this spring and I'm looking for some advice. I prefer the stock old school look so I'm running 15"x 8" Magnum 500"s and BFG Radial TA's. I'm debating between 255x60, 275x60 or 295x50. I'd love to see some pictures of any of these 3 sizes on an 8" wide rim if you have it. I know that a 295 on an 8" rim is pushing it but BFG states 8"-10.5" rim width for that tire.
Hi Randy - my new magnum 500's x 8" rims are here and I am looking at the same decision - have you bought anything yet? If you have I would like to chat. Bill

Hey Bill, I haven’t pulled the trigger on any tires yet but I think I’m going to go with a 255 on the rear. I don’t want to put 295s on an 8 inch rim and I’m not sure I have the wheel well clearance for a 275.

Here is mine when I had BFC Comps. 245 on front and 295 on rear on stock wheels. The 295s will look bulgy in stock wheels but they work. The 295s fit with no issues.

Nice!
Are your all four of your wheels 15X8 with 4.5bs? Even with with those 295's on the rear?
They seem to tuck in a little more than Mister 4x4 295's on his 15x10's with 5.25bs above in post 8
even though your sidewalls seem to bulge a little more.

Did some searching and answered my questions as you have already mentioned this on several other threads.
Thanks.

I just subscribed to your build thread and started reading through the history of your mods and progress.
I recently purchased a 71 m 351c 4-speed and have aspirations to do what you have already been doing.
Thanks for the build thread and vast amount of info your providing.

I am currently on the hunt for street tires, most likely 245/60-15 on front with either 15x7 4.25bs or 15x8 4.5bs
On rear I'd like to fit 295/50-15 on 15x10 5.5-6.0bs if I can clear the fender with out rolling the lip for clearance.
Any advice on street tires would be welcome.
Love your car and upgrades, Maybe we'll meet on the track someday!

Mine are narrower than what you are looking for…American Racing VN 501, 15x7 and 15x8, 235-60 and 245-60. 1 coil cut off front springs, lowering front 3-4 inches from stock…no issues….I got mine at Tire Rack, call their 800# they will special order what you want…cheapest price I could find….

I found some issues with the rocker arms and am trying to iron them out. I also found a set of 1970 closed chamber heads and think I will just get the current engine running as is and start building a new one over the summer for fall installation. I will post pics once I start the build next month. Cheers!

Nice, I've also got the 70 quench heads on mine.

I'd love to hear what your plan for the engine build is. I did my engine over 15 years ago and it's been great but I'd like to do it one more time and go for a few more ponies that I left sitting on the table.
