Windshield Grime

What is the best way to remove road grime and or overspray from a windshield. I need something more aggressive than vinegar, but I fear scratching a new windshield with an abrasive. Can I use a green pad, or a clay bar? Any suggestions please.

I always try Invisible Glass aerosol spray (not pump) first.

I've had good results removing water spots and overspray with MAAS metal polish and Flitz polish. These are both non-abrasive and a little goes a long way. I only apply it by hand with a microfiber cloth and turn the cloth to stay on a clean part of it as I work across the window. Clean the window well first to get any debris off to avoid it scratching the window.

There are some glass polish compounds for use with machine polishers, too.

Griot's Garage has a glass clay bar. I bought one, but have yet to try it. They also offer a polishing kit for minor imperfections.

My favorite glass cleaner is Sprayway aerosol. Been using it for years, works great on the interior surfaces as well.

Great info, thank you all. I went with the Griot's and ordered it.
Just as a last word, the car has been stored 22 years. I've had it since I was 17 (1978) and restored it between '95 - '00. Shortly after finishing the resto, I moved to Prague, Czech Republic for what was to be a 1-2 years stint. It turned into 22 years and I lived in the city center so the costs of safe / dry parking was like having a 2nd apartment. 3 years ago we bought a home outside the city but then Covid hit. So NOW, after all this time I am shipping the car to join me and reunite with it again.

For road grime and other hard to remove oils/deposits soak rags or paper towels in CocaCola and let them set on the glass for an hour or so. Rinse good and then use your glass cleaner.

A detailer recommended a 50-50 mix of Isopropyl alcohol and water. It is supposed to loosen debris so your normal glass cleaner can do a better job.
