Oh man, that’s a drag. Glad you didn’t get hurt, that’s the main thing. I feel your pain, got in an accident a few years ago with my Mach 1. Looked worse than it really was, got it all fixed up and it is better than before. Here’s a before and after pics. Hope you can get it fixed somehow. I have Hagerty and they were really pretty good to deal with. The adjuster was kind of an a hole, but they covered everything.

Glad you made it out OK and are doing well. From what I see, that car is repairable. Get a donor coupe with a roof and do a transplant. Or do a swap over to another donor body.

Been there! Was 17 and pissed off after a fight with my girlfriend in 1977. I ran out of talent and lost it on a curve, taking out a small tree with the left rear wheel and fender. Day's later swapped the bent axle with a salvaged one, and off to the body shop. Insurance did the rest and I was golden.

I no longer drive angry!

Well the thing is I’m 17 and we’re using Hagerty and my step dad said they might not cover it since it’s under his name so they aren’t reporting it.

I use hagerty as well. Read the fine print of your policy. I thought they advertise that anyone can drive the car and they don't care. Meaning, if your step dad owns the car and he lets you drive it, it is still covered. Again, double check before making a claim

Hello everyone last night I hydroplaned at 35 mph lost control and absolutely destroyed my mustang. I loved this car so much I bought it myself I am still in highschool and I think either part it out or scrap it. View attachment 89359

I am saddened by this loss. I feel your pain. I totaled my first car, a Candyapple Red 69 Mustang coupe. My own fault. High school,'nuff said. It is amazing I lived past age 19. I can't begin to fathom how sad it would be to lose such a cherished car that survived this long. Drag... I hope you are able to find a nice replacement, another vintage Mustang I hope.

I think the issue is not just the roof. The A pillars are structural. You wont get the original rigidity back if you cut the top off a different car to weld on.

The obvious answer is OP should take this opportunity to add a roll cage in when he swaps the roof.

I had a similar accident where my car hydroplaned at around 50mph, luckily there was a median wall on the highway and I didn't flip. But my car was banged up real good. In my case, I wouldn't accept letting go, so I got her fixed. But as suggested above, I would first run through the insurance and see how much help you can get from them. That'll probably be the biggest deciding factor as to which course of action you take moving forward.
It's probably not worth fixing unless you have a hookup for a body guy or can actually do the work yourself. I agree with others on here, that the best way to go is buying a really nice donor. Get a body style you like, good color combo, straight body, etc. and just swap all the good stuff from that car into the new one.
The silver lining is that you might get coverage and you can definitely take off a crapload of good parts. You can even sell the ones you can't use and fund a portion of whatever car comes next.
At least you're ok and that's what matters. Everything else is just a speed bump along the way. Be sure to keep us posted!

Nothing like the sound of a Cleveland. Hopefully you do get the privilege of having a 351 in your next ride

Hagerty treated me very good. Most insurance allows immediate family, or “drivers with owners permission “. Some policy’s exclude other drivers to only “named drivers”. Read the policy, make the claim. They were generous with my claim. Glad you are ok!!

I would have the discussion with the insurance provider. If you put up a good fight and they still say no you are still at the point you are right now. If they say yes and at least give the the insured value back us that money towards your next ride. You would need to buy back the car from Hagerty if they total it so you will not have all of the insured value to use if you want to find a solid donor and swap out parts. You and your step dads call but I wish you the best and glad you are OK. Add one more lesson learned in life.

While I’ve never had to file with them Hagerty has alway been good and fair about things. They know the cars get driven, it’s worth a shot
