The cam in mine is a hydraulic roller profile running on solid roller lifters.Easy on valvetrain and springs. There is maintenance with solids but they are worth some power over juice lifters.I may end up going hydro boost route but I'm going to try the vacuum pump first. I've heard mixed reviews...
The only issue you might have is vacuum.Im not making enough for "good" brakes.Im putting a vacuum pump on this winter.Since I'm having to use a pump anyway I'm going to a bigger cam in the near future. You have a very solid combo in mind. With P51 heads and an Air Gap intake you should make well...
I've thought about the retro looking modern stereo thing.I really don't need all that fancy garbage.I really don't even care about having music, the 521 sings the song I like but the wife bitches about not having tunes.
You should be north of 600 with a combo like that.Mine is a 521 cam is 247/257 @ 50.SCJ-A heads,11 to 1 compression,Torker 2,950 Holley HP.Mine dyno 630hp@5800 and 645 tq at 4400 before a slight cam change,should be up 7-10 on hp and torque now.
I'm not concerned with having exactly what it came with.It has a cheap aftermarket cassette player that doesn't work in it now.Id just like to have a period correct radio in it.
No need to back halve it.My 521 makes 630+ hp and 645+ tq.It doesn't really matter how big a street tire is you are going to boil them.I run a 295 BFG TA radial on mine for normal driving and they are useless.I also have 295 MT drag radials, they are much better, traction is much more...
I did a search on here for info.Am I correct by what I read a 72 was available with am radio,am/fm or am/8 track? Anyway I'm looking for an original working radio either am or am/8 track.Does anybody have anything for sale or know where I can get a correctly working nice one?
It's not a daily driver. And yes sometimes it has drag radials on it. Didn't want a spool and don't think a Trac loc would hold up very long. The noises it makes don't really bother me other than that big bang on shifts, sounds like the rearend is coming apart.
Does anybody have any experience with Detroit Lockers?.I'm having an issue with a very loud banging noise on shifts. It usually doesn't happen on the 1-2 shift ,usually only happens on the 2-3 shift.Usually only "pops" on low speed low throttle shift.Usually doesn't do it under hard acceleration...
I think what they mean is you don't have to spin a big block as high to make power. As far as maintenance the spark plugs are a bears ass the get out of my 72 with a 385 series.460 is a very tough reliable engine.
My 630 horsepower 521 has a recurved Duraspark on it.It will turn 6500 with no issues MSD 6al box.You won't have any problems.Look inside a Duraspark and a MSD together sometime.
