Free Free Bumper Guards & Misc wiring

Over the years I've been slowly distributing left-over parts from my 73 Convertible restoration way back in the 90's. I still have a 69 convertible. If the 71-73 parts are useful I'm happy to send them along. Two basic rear bumper guards - would need rework and re-chrome, two 71-3 quarter...

Replace transmission dip stick fill tube or O ring

Not sure why you are recommending draining the transmission fluid since the tube itself is not filled. However, the dipstick tube could be very difficult to remove since it may be cemented in place with age and corrosion. In that case, draining the trans fluid -- which can only be done with...

    First Car Show

Congrats, it's a good looking mustang. What color is that blue?

Report from racing the Muscletang at the Optima Ultimate Street Car Challenge at Road America this past weekend (6/30/2024)

You're doing what 99% of vintage car hobbyists only dream of --- kudos to your efforts. That track run looks like so much fun. I've driven Watkins Glen track a few times in my 69 vert, but at nothing close to the speeds you are reaching.

    A Pretty Dumb Question...

As an owner of a 69 convertible I can tell you NOT unzipping and folding the rear window before dropping the top risks splitting the glass from the silicone folding seal. Additionally leaving the rear glass window in place does not allow the top fabric to fold down completely into the well...

Parts For Sale MSD 6415 6EFI units

Last fall I was tracking down an issue with non-running Holley EFI system and purchased a new MSD 6415 6EFI ignition control to test if the existing unit was at fault. It was not, it was the Holley dual sync distributor that failed. As part of the solution I decided to go with a late 80's Ford...

Don't you love the "I'm gonna fix'er up one of these day, guys!"

Spike hits all the right notes on why the current owner will never complete any dreamy restoration. The current owner has probably not realized that costs for vintage mustang restorations have rocketed hundreds times higher than from 30+ yrs ago and good original parts have vanished. Or maybe...

    Mach 1 questions

Sounds like rust issues -- most likely more than what you mention. You can pick up a basic Marti report (need the VIN) to verify factory equipment. Engine sitting for 25+ years is not a great situation. $7 - $9K.

    Determine Value of 1973 Mach 1 With a 351M (Actually a 351C!)

If the ram air flaps close when the engine is running (and vacuum is approx 12" or more) they work. When engine is shut down, the flaps will open and remain open. Revving the engine while in park typically does not lower vacuum enough to open the flaps any significant amount. When the engine...

    MSD repair service

A friend of mine whose business is performance, tuning and racing told me many of the drag racers who still use MSD carry several spares. In his world they're known as 'May Suddenly Die' units.

    Connecting a Ram air

The ram air ducts are designed to work at low engine vacuum -- which occurs at wide open throttle under load -- which is not something that normally lasts very long. Sounds like yours are working as designed.

71 Grande on FB: 351C 4V and Manual trans?

Depending on the rear end gearing, this car would have been quite the street sleeper in it's day.

Learning as I go - Mystery components - what are they?

If you are moving towards hands-on, probably the best investment now would be a complete set of shop manuals and a set of the reproduction assembly manuals.

    For Sale Resources

I've used Hemmings (not the auction) and had a good result. Be prepared to get a lot of 'low-ball' offers. Take the time to prepare a detailed honest description - it will reduce the questions from interested buyers regarding pertinent details that should be known. Lots of good detailed...

    Carpet drama

I suspect you will have fitment issues trying to install coupe carpet in fastback. Considering the cost and time factor is getting carpet shipped to Australia, it might be worth installing some inexpensive indoor/outdoor carpet to keep you on the road until the correct one is available. I have...

Garage storage during the East Coast Winter questions?

+1 with everything above, especially Hemikiller for 5 month WNY winter seasons. I had a bad experience 5 yrs ago with mice entering the car thru cowl drains, then into the plenum and the interior. I had been using dryer sheets which obviously failed to slow down the incursion. Took weeks of...
