Update on the 72 Coupe (Video Q&A)

(Sorry if this is duplicated. From my end, it does not appear my earlier post in the Build Thread uploaded, so I am covering bases.) Alright gang...finally had my first window of opportunity to start diving into the 72. Needless to say, there is a ****-ton of work ahead in terms of body work...

    1972 Mustang Coupe 302

Alright gang...finally had my first window of opportunity to start diving into the 72. Needless to say, there is a ****-ton of work ahead in terms of body work, rust repair, etc. However my first focus is to get the engine situated and running properly. When she showed up from Cali, she was...

    Mustang owner for 45 years

Don't quite have the track record that you all do....wanted one since I was 19....took me until 51 now to just get my first. Makes it a little more enjoyable knowing I finally got my man prize after paying for the daughters college, and the wedding and getting all the other life stuff out of the...

    New brakes for the Muscletang

Completely useless side post, but being from Wisconsin, Road America brings back memories. Spent a lot of time there and even launched a brand campaign and sponsorship for Hawk back in the day...when they did The Hawk at Road America. Love that place, haven't been in years.

    72 Mach 1 in Florida

Yeah...I saw this yesterday on that forum. I wish I would have caught this prior to buying the coupe. Missed this deal by about two weeks. I would have gladly paid 4k more than I did for the coupe versus 5 and having is shipped from CA to Orlando. Hope someone snags this thing. Heard that she...

    Seat Upgrade

Nik - I have a 72 coupe that I am restoring and will be in need of seats. If you end up swapping yours out, send me some pictures, I would be open to buying and shipping them if they are in decent condition...and off course if you are going to part with them. Best - PBR

Orlando Members - Reference for a trusted mechanic?

Thanks my friend. He did not remove the mechanical pump, simply rerouted the line through this Edelbrock. If you have recommendations on an electric pump, do let me know. I'm going to disable the Edelbrock just to do some troubleshooting. As mentioned his comment and reasoning was because he was...

Yep, thats the one he put in alright. And my first thought was a clog or plug. Thanks for the info, I'll run that test. PBR

Orlando Members - Reference for a trusted mechanic?

All- been working on the 72 since getting it home and running into some issues. This previous owner did a lot of "corner cutting" on some things, the oddest being sticking an Edelbrock electric fuel system on it (he stated he had to continuously pump the car to get it going) but rather than...

    Some insight on rust approach

Totally agree. Honestly, as I said before, I'm an engine guy...and while I can paint...and probably could learn to weld, I would rather focus my efforts on the items I know I have control of (engine, performance, etc, parts), and leave the painting and the body work issues to get it done right...

    Some insight on rust approach

I did some digging on the welding and logistics involved with it, as well as making sure I'm being honest with myself about my capabilities here. I did find a local shop that came out about an hour ago (mom and pop shop, but the guy drove out on a Sunday to see it). My age, great guy, has...

    Some insight on rust approach

Based on the advice and feedback, I'm going to look into the MIG option and just start learning how to weld. Nothing wrong with learning something new anyway. More to come.

    Some insight on rust approach

Don, would love to do that, but I have never welded or done any metal work before. Not to say I couldn't manage it, but I have zero experience. Not sure it would just open a rabbit hole bigger than dealing with it professionally. If you have any resources or videos on basic metal replacement...

    Some insight on rust approach

Steve- yeah the owner taped over the spots as he was not equipped to deal with it. I'm going to spend more detailed time on the areas this week and see how bad they really are. Definitely can see its going to need some metal replacement tho.
