    460 swap on a 72 Mustang base

Roy didn't charge a great deal and he has jigs made up to use any frame brackets you have, even the '73s. 71-72 both are the same, but the '73 are unique since Ford went to the retention style motor mounts due to federal regulations. Give Roy a call. He's a nice guy and you'll likely be...

    429 SCJ Carburetor question

You're on the mark there! If you have old late 60's early 70's Hot Rod magazines they would talk about putting holes in the primary throttle plates to keep them away from the transfer slots. I've seen it on old Holley carbs at swap meets. I used to attend the meets in the infield of the Indy 500...

I can give you pics of mine. The man you want to talk to is Roy as listed above. Here's what he made for me.

    429 SCJ Carburetor question

I'll go look at the carb later and snap some pics. I scored a 428 CJ back in 1986. All disassembled, he had been buying bits and pieces for years and never got around to assembling it. I kinda went off the deep end on that one. My machine shop guy was an old Hemi Dart racer and he gave me a ton...

    429 SCJ Carburetor question

I have that exact carb at home in my garage! I bought a 429 SCJ out of a Torino Cobra about 42-43 years ago for a pittance. Complete from carb to oil pan! The guy asked me if I was interested in a 429 from a Torino. He described it to me and I realized what he had. I asked him how much. He said...

Another New guy to the forum… but not new to 7173’s

302W and the Boss 302. Effectively a Cleveland headed 302. But we're talking 1970 now. The old Ford Muscle Parts book even had instructions on putting 4V Cleveland heads on a 302 block to make a home grown "Boss 302". I've seen a highly modified Boss 302 running Hilborn fuel injection make...

Unless it was originally a 302 car!

Parts Wanted '72 Mach 1 grille center bracket needed

Thank you, '72MustangSprint, but I took the one off my '72 convertible. I'm working on the drawing and have the plan view completed, I'm just starting the rear view now. I'll do the front view and a side view with a couple of section views. I need one for my '72 Mach 1.

Parts Wanted '72 Mach 1 grille center bracket needed

I'm working on an AutoCAD drawing for the part we're all looking for. I had hoped to get it done by now, but my uncle passed away last Saturday and I've been busy with family issues. I've been talking with Fabrice as he's been doing some amazing work on the '71 429CJ he's been restoring. He said...

    I've strayed, again.

My grandfather had one almost identical to yours, except his was a 360. He'd let me borrow it to go out driving around on days I helped with his citrus grove in central Florida.

    Convertible Door Glass Issues

I can testify to this being 100% true. My '72 Q code convertible has power windows and during restoration back in the early 80's (I bought it in Chicago in 1980), I had to replace the doors. I used coupe doors and had to use my original glass as stated. It's not really terribly hard to do. Just...

Why our cars get bad fuel milage

LOL, I'll be filling up all the time, I know. But it should be a grin generator like crazy. I've always wanted a mountain motor for the Mach 1. Considering a 6R80 trans to keep the revs down on the interstate.

Why our cars get bad fuel milage

My Q ode '72 convertible with the C6 and 3.25 gears gets about 12-14 highway MPG at 80 MPH on the interstate. I found a D1ZX-DA intake a few years back and put it on with a 750 vac secondary Holley. I picked up about 2 MPG and the pull is smooth and just keeps coming. Hated that damn 4300D carb...

Fuel Vent - What to do?

My charcoal canisters are stay right where they are! My convertible is a Q code C6 car with just about every option in the book, even power windows, intermittent wipers, and power seat back releases and the 3 spoke tilt steering wheel.

Fuel Vent - What to do?

Yeah, I suppose lots of people simply discarded the "smog" equipment from their cars back in the day. I'm lucky in that both of my '72s (Mach 1 and convertible) both have the original charcoal cannisters still in place. I bought the Mach 1 in 1977 and the convertible in 1980, so they were...
