The Rickster - a 73 Mach 1 work in progress

Just when you thought you were fixing to cross the finish line... I got the rear bumper removed, bumper guards installed and the backup camera installed, and the rear bumper reattached. I went to attach the rear view mirror but the button on my NPD windshield was too small. I was able to...

The Rickster - a 73 Mach 1 work in progress

Thanks, Bond, James Bond. Wheels are 15x8. Rear tires are 255/60-15 and front tires are 245/60-15. I may get a tiny rub against the steering knuckle with the wheels I have, so I may have to get some 1/4" spacers for the front. If I were doing it again, I think I would go with 235/60-15's up...

The Rickster - a 73 Mach 1 work in progress

Kilgon, that is a great idea. I'll definitely give that a try. Midlife, I checked out West Coast Classic Cougars, but they didn't list anything specifically for 71-73 Mustangs. I did get a bright idea, though, from your suggestions and chasing their website, and that was to see if there are...

The Rickster - a 73 Mach 1 work in progress

I am having a fit trying to get it to seat in the clips. I've pulled the rear window out and reinstalled it without the 1/8" foam seal, and purchased new trim clips but I still can't get the trim to snap into many of the clips. It's driving me nuts, and I stalling out the project. I've got a...

The Rickster - a 73 Mach 1 work in progress

Last night my friend, Justin, came over and we got the windshield installed. The trim went on the windshield with no problem. I still haven't been able to get the trim on the rear window. I am about to the point of just gluing it on, and not let perfection get in the way of completion...

The Rickster - a 73 Mach 1 work in progress

Well, a few days ago I got the horn button sorted out, but then I discovered that the parking lights and turn signals weren't working properly. I fussed with them for a couple days, without any hint of success. Today, I finally broke down and called Ron Francis, and they pointed me to a...

The Rickster - a 73 Mach 1 work in progress

Today, I got the door panels installed for good. Kudos to MrGMHale and his YouTube video that provided so much useful info regarding the installation of the door panels. As promised, here are some pictures of the door panels and the door handles mounted with the adapters I fabbed up. Now I...

The Rickster - a 73 Mach 1 work in progress

Not a progress report, but today is the Rickster's 50th birthday. It was built on this day in 1973. I haven't had time to do much on it over the last few weeks. Spring is here, and the wife has decided the yard and garden need my attention more than the Rickster.

The Rickster - a 73 Mach 1 work in progress

So I've gotten to the point where I can install the door panels. I've gotten the tab to extend the door release completed so I need to get the door panel clips to line up. I got the plastic "cup" that the door latch release lined up, but it just lays there with nothing really holding it in...

The Rickster - a 73 Mach 1 work in progress

A couple weeks ago, a friend came over, and between the two of us, we were able to get the door and quarter windows aligned. With that task checked off the list, the interior can finally go in. Overall, I think it came out pretty well. Now, I need to get the new deluxe door panels...

Door panel holes not lining up?

I discovered the same thing yesterday when I started to install my door panels.

    1971 Mach 1

You're doing a great job! That is a lot of work, and I commend you for tackling such a project and saving another old Mustang from the scrap heap. As GMonte noted previously, Fitzee's Fabrication on YouTube has a lot of great info on repairing rusted out sheet metal. I watched a lot of his...

    Lift underneath subframe connectors?

I lifted my Mach 1 under the subframe connector in the back, with a shorter pin under the pad. Up front, I used a slightly longer pin under the lift pad, and placed it under the torque box where it meets the front frame connector. I've attached a couple pictures to hopefully make it less...

The Rickster - a 73 Mach 1 work in progress

I did go for it, and it's turned out surprisingly well. It was a slow process, but yes, it did keep me from losing my sanity after losing my sanity. My 12 yr old Eastwood welder is about worn out, now, but it served me well on this project. I need to adjust transmission linkage, redo trans...

The Rickster - a 73 Mach 1 work in progress

Making some progress on the Rickster. Dan, my friend and neighbor, came over today and we were able to get the side windows lined up, finally. It was a pain in the posterior, but we got it. I don't know if I could have gotten it without his help. Maybe, but it would have been so much more...

The Rickster - a 73 Mach 1 work in progress

Well, yesterday I finally got back on the Rickster. I had rebuilt the proportioning valve a few weeks back, and got it installed. A neighbor came over to help out, and with his help, I was able to find a few leaks. One in the brake line Tee on the back axle, and another with one of the line...

The Rickster - a 73 Mach 1 work in progress

Thanks, TPJ. That sounds like a great idea. I will double check the rear glass, and if that still doesn't get it fitting up, I'll look into finding an old school glass guy. If that fails, I'll just run with windows down. ;-)
