My turn for a question; Are the nylon chrome trim clips only for 73 grilles? I think the clips were metal on the OEM 71 grille I tool apart a few years ago.

I’m always learning new things about the various small differences between the 71-72 and 73 model years.

If you plan to replace the grille, it is much easier to order the grille with the chrome trim already installed from Daniel Carpenter Reproductions.

I have Prothane mounts on mine with the 71-72 frame mounts. No problems with 351C stock 2v exhaust manifolds (4V might be a problem, as they are bigger).

Correct, the frame mount is designed to work with stock motor mounts. It only needs the tab trimmed off with Prothane after market motor mounts.

Just trim off the tab that sticks up, I used a hand held Ryobi saber saw,

71 Mach 1, H code.

I believe black was available only in 1971 (except for special order).

Installing heli-coil inserts is another option.

Here are my thoughts; 1. Verify maximum mechanical advance before setting the initial advance. 2. Connect the vacuum gauge to the vacuum tree on the intake. My “H” has the Performer 2V intake, RV cam and low compression. It pulls 17 “ of vacuum at idle. Regards, Jim

Black with silver trim on the body and upholstery is an awesome combination on a 71 Mach 1!

I lag bolted two 2x12s across 4 ceiling joists. Added a backup channel and a 3/4” bolt for the hoist. Used a 1 ton chain hoist for everything from 351s to 6 cylinder outboards.

To answer your question: The optimum advance curve for a given engine, application and octane is pretty much the same for any distributor. The attached document explains the requirements and math for a 351c in detail. I hope this helps.

My understanding is that the variable dwell feature in the PII creates problems with the stock tach.

I am have the Pertronix1, 1.5 ohm coil, stock resistor wire & stock tach. Runs just fine for the past 10 years.

Sure sounds like more fun then dripping water into the carb to steam clean the combustion chambers.
