My Mustang originally had a FMX. The frame rails did have the treaded inserts in the frame rail for the equalizer bar mount.

I have had quality problems with several brands of aftermarket clutch kits and now only use Centerforce products.

Here is a picture of the stock parts.

If stock: equalizer (“Z”) bar with 2 springs, 2 rods, motor bracket, frame bracket and release fork.

I'm big on safety when working under the car. I leave the trolley jack under the diff. in addition to the jack stands under the axle tubes.

My experience is that the stock tachometer works with the Pertronix 1

I used an old fan belt to stretch the spring with the opposite end installed.

Yes, I had a 71 Mach1 with a 302, C4 automatic and the instrumentation package. It did not have a tachometer or staggered shocks.

Yes the overdrive gear is a huge plus. With a 3.25 rear, I turn 3,000 rpm @ 65 mph. Fortunately my highway trips are limited.

Interesting to note the 72 Mustang 3 speed toploaders had the same aluminum belhousings as the Boss 302. That’s how I found mine.

Add an aluminum intake and trans belhousing to the equation and the weight reductions are significant.
