Front End Alignment Specs vs Behavior (Return to Center)

I swapped out the new Idler Arm for the old one. The idler was very difficult to turn at the joint attaching to the Center Link. The old Idler has bearings/bushings on both ends....I installed in when I rebuilt the front end back in the 80's...it's much easier to move and still tight...

Front End Alignment Specs vs Behavior (Return to Center)

Thanks for your input. I'm using a Longacre digital gauge and their bracket that registers on the wheel. The front wheels are on turn plates, which are on a set of crib stands that have rollers attached. The rollers let the wheels move laterally with the idea of helping it to settle after...

    Vinegar bath for spindles

I used this Metal Blast product with Rust Bullet....is seems similar to the Eastwood product except the Eastwood is leaving behind somewhat of a protective zinc phosphate coating...at least that's how I interpreted it. No idea how well the coating preserves the metal.

“Brakes” light constantly on in instrument cluster

If the pedal feels good, you're probably ok, but I would carefully drive it somewhere low-risk where you can test the brakes. The fluid level will drop as the pads and shoes wear....it's possible that's what you're observing. However, the brake light being on, indicates something is awry.

“Brakes” light constantly on in instrument cluster

With the fluid low, you have a leak somewhere (assuming low miles on the brake pads and shoes). If you're not finding any signs of fluid at the wheels it must be somewhere else. Take a look at the Combo Valve on the driver's side fender apron. It could also be leaking into the brake booster...

Front End Alignment Specs vs Behavior (Return to Center)

@Sheriff41 I tried to IM you but the system wouldn't let me. If memory serves, you've done a bit of alignment work?

Front End Alignment Specs vs Behavior (Return to Center)

Very good info. Mine is tracking straight and stable, it's just not returning all the way back to center. Sometimes, memory plays tricks, but it seems like it returned better before all the new parts and the additional caster. Prior to taking it off of the turn plates, both sides were set to...

Front End Alignment Specs vs Behavior (Return to Center)

Thanks, this is the type of feedback I'm looking for. These are the specs that I've recorded from various sources. The top 3 rows were from Opentracker. Mine was set at -0.5 Camber, +3.2 Caster prior to taking it off the turn plates. I've got it back on the plates and will bring it back to...

Front End Alignment Specs vs Behavior (Return to Center)

After rebuilding the front end and performing the alignment, the steering wheel does not return to center. The wheel returns partially and then will hold steady. I didn't think to check it in both directions, so at this point, I can say for certain that it does this on a right turn. Which of...

Are those the model that #4 tube passes through the fenderwell? How close are you to Berlin CT? Ever heard of PMR Performance?

    Vinegar bath for spindles

The benefit of evaporust is that it won't consume the base metal, only the iron oxide. A similar, but less effective, result can be had from a dilute mixture of feed-grade molasses and water. 9 parts water to 1 part molasses. The molasses takes a week or 2, but gives pretty impressive...

    KYB Gas-A-Just vs KYB Excel-G

Thanks for the input. I'm considering to try running the softer Excel G's up front and leaving the stiffer Gas-A-Just at the back to prevent wheel hop? Thinking back, I don't recall ever having a wheel hop problem...probably because of those traction bars?

    C6 knowledge requested

I built a C6, back in the 80's, that ran behind a 429, and later a 460. I got ahold of, what I called, a low gear set from Ford Motorsport. It supposedly changed first from 2.46 to 2.72....sounds like the E4OD is pretty much the same thing? On another note, do you know which vehicles might...

    KYB Gas-A-Just vs KYB Excel-G

A couple of years ago, I installed the Gas-A-Just shocks for the Mustang application. The ride is a bit stiffer than I'd like and considering moving to the Excel-G version. I'm kinda irritated with KYB for this mismatch on length. I have a couple of questions for those of you who have...

    C6 knowledge requested

Here's something from Fordification on the servos and levers. I don't know anything about the valve body, but I might be interested in the shift lever. I'd be curious how many teeth the speedo drive gear (on output shaft) has, also. Do you know what rear end this trans was coupled with?

Tail Panel removal - need procedure

I tried that and couldn't get consistent results. Then again, I haven't used my plasma torch, extensively. My go to's are drill bit if I don't care what's underneath. belt sander to save the underlying panel, spot weld cutter, when I want to save what's under and can clean up (remove the...
