5mm is not that big of a gap. See the pics of the my wheel I repaired. I had gaps that wide after I used a dremmel tool to widen them. My wheel and pad were green and I painted both black. Turned out pretty good. Any crack needs to be ground out and widened to get the epoxy to stick good anyway.

You don’t need a new accelerator cable unless it’s frayed. There’s an adapter to get the correct range of movement for the cable. If your mechanic doesn’t know that, then you need another one.

A simple piece of 2 x 4 about 7-8” long works as well. Lay it under the control arm from front to back.
