    Finally Time

Great story, be glad that you never sold it! So many of us had cool cars when we were young but moved them on for more "important" priorities.

Engine won't start and turns over like it has no compression

Thanks for your advice mrgmhale. I do have a Crow Cams double gear-set on order, not sure if it is a roller type though. But one thing comes to mind - wouldn't the extra gear width mean that my harmonic balancer will stick out further and stop my drive belts from lining up? Or does the double...

Engine won't start and turns over like it has no compression

Here in Australia we can often be heard to use the word "cactus", which in our regional colloquial idiom can refer to something as being "dead, broken, ruined, no longer working". So I can emphatically and without any exaggeration say that the cam timing gear in my car has been found to be...

Engine won't start and turns over like it has no compression

Good to know, I'm keen to change out the timing chain and gears anyway now, as I hate the thought that I might have a 50 year old gear in there with nylon teeth. I've ordered a crow cams gear/chain set from ebay (only $129 AUD which I think is great value) and also a gasket set. If the rotor...

Engine won't start and turns over like it has no compression

Bingo! At TDC the rotor is facing directly at no 4 cylinder, looks like the chain has slipped a tooth or three. Hopefully valves are still ok, though I am cautiously optimistic as this happened in my garage rather than while driving on the road. Time to pull the front cover off to take a look...

Engine won't start and turns over like it has no compression

Thanks guys, I did remove the distributor cap and the the rotor was turning, but I only looked at it for about one revolution - will check its orientation and proper function tomorrow.

Engine won't start and turns over like it has no compression

My Mustang is running it's original 302W, no idea whether or not it has been rebuilt in the past at all. Always been running fine, although the last couple of drives I noticed it wasn't idling as efficiently as it normally would. Today I cranked it over, it fired up for a couple of seconds but...

    I'm enranged

You're right, I would never EVER remove the factory radio aerial from my car!

    Hi everybody.

Beautiful car, sleek and mean. Pretty low at the front, your front cross-member must be just about touching the ground! Thanks for including lots of pics!

    Starting A New 72 Mach 1 Project

Yep, you are absolutely correct Ib4stangs, I just peered down at that area of the trunk for the first time with a torch and I can see evidence of welding around the scallop, it's been repaired with body-work and some filler. There is a lot of evidence of panel straightening on that quarter panel...

    Starting A New 72 Mach 1 Project

An interesting contradiction; measured from back edge of the panel the length of the scallop on the my passenger side is 1.5" wide and the scallop on the drivers side (replaced panel) is 2" wide. My bumper is where it should be for a 1972, so bumper mounts are correct. Was the scallop size...

    Starting A New 72 Mach 1 Project

When replacing that rear quarter sheet metal be aware also that the 71-72 sheet-metal around the bumper area is also different to a 73. One day at a work car show somebody looked at my 72 and said "Is that large gap around the end of the bumper from factory?" I'd had the car about 10 years and...

1974 Ford Falcon panel-van and coupe TV ads.

My Mustang has a little bit of Australian Falcon in it; it has the factory air cleaner housing from the XB Coupe on it, and also I installed XC-XF Falcon upper control arms into it. When I bought the Mustang the upper control arms were shot so I bought standard aftermarket arms and they squeaked...

1974 Ford Falcon panel-van and coupe TV ads.

I had an XB Coupe for about 5 years back in the 1990's, it was my main car so I drove it absolutely everywhere and in all conditions, including rough dirt tracks, but never through flowing water! It wasn't a collectors item back then like they are nowadays, so I just drove it wherever I wanted...

1974 Ford Falcon panel-van and coupe TV ads.

Considering Australia's XB Falcon shares some styling cues with the 71-73 Mustang, some might find these vintage ads from 1974 interesting, showcasing the Ford XB Falcon panel-van and XB coupe
