    What's wrong with this seat?

The bottom seat frame has cracked.  You will need to remove the upholstery and weld the frame.

    9” trac-loc rebuild experts?

Yeah, that's what I thought.  That's why I had the "professionals" do it. Unfortunately they got it back to me so late in the season I had to put it away for the winter.   They said they would take care of me in the spring.  We'll see how that goes.

    9” trac-loc rebuild experts?

So Don, if the thing is all set up correctly on the bench and the pattern on the gears is good, could a cracked pinion support cause the angle to change under load causing noise? Kligon,  Don't you need a press for some parts of the rebuild?

    9” trac-loc rebuild experts?

The first set of gears whined starting at about 40 mph. Apply light throttle and you’d start to hear it. It was a constant drone on the interstate but become quieter as you coasted. With the new gears, it had on consistent hum fron dead stop and up and then continuing as you slow down. All...

    9” trac-loc rebuild experts?

I bought a used tracloc diff off eBay a couple years ago.  Seller claimed it was rebuilt.  I installed it and it had a whine above 40mph.  This year I decided to pull it and have it checked by a local performance shop.  I had them rebuild it again with new gears , bearing , everything.I put back...

WTF was Grabber Green in 71?

Definitely a hair dark for grabber green. But I really like that color.  I wouldn’t paint it. Don,  I think that’s a pic of my car 20 years ago.

    Sloppy steering

Well the verdict is in.  The rag joint did seem to fix most of the violent darting across lanes.  There is still more wandering than I’d like. The wife works at the Ford dealership so it looks like she’ll bring it in for the alignment guy to give it a once over.

    Sloppy steering

Yeah,  I figured it out after awhile.  6 point sockets don’t fit so good.  My 12 point 7/16 was missing but a got a new one. The new rag joint is in.  That job sucked.  Going for a test drive after a shower.

    Sloppy steering

I’ve got the new rag joint and I am working on putting it in.  What size bolt holds the joint to the steering box?  It looks like a 12 point star bolt. I need to go buy the right socket

    Sloppy steering

If I don’t see any play in the components a trip to the alignment shop might be the best course of action.   I read the other rag joint related posts and ordered the rock auto one.

    Sloppy steering

Tightening the selector shaft adjustment screw didn’t buy me anything so I ordered a rag joint.  Stay tuned.

    Sloppy steering

Steering has always had a bit of slop but not to a point where it darts across the lane.  Even if the road was bad it shouldn’t do that.  Pump is full of fluid.  I did not change the pitman arm. I’ll try the adjustment screw. That box rebuild is around $500. I like the idea of quicker steering...

    Sloppy steering

Would I see any slop between the steering shaft and the steering box input at the rag joint?  I had the kid move the steering wheel while I watched the rag joint.  I appears to be a solid transfer of rotation both with the engine off and running.

    Sloppy steering

This year the steering has really gone down hill in my car.  On the interstate the car now seems to dart from one side of the lane to the other.  With about 3 inches of play in the wheel you really are fighting to catch it. The whole front suspension, tie rods, idler arm, bushings, upper and...

    25 Years of Ownership

Bought my first Mustang 25 years ago this week. Bought it July 1994 at Summer Carlisle swap meet at drove it 500 miles home.  Still going strong.

    Here’s a good one

Not mine but I know the car.  Very nice restoration.  I think it’s close to 500 hp stroker and the original enigine on the stand. https://vermont.craigslist.org/cto/d/charlotte-1971-ford-mustang-mach-1/6933169288.html
