71-72 Mach 1 Lower Body Trim

Great pic by the way! How many here are old enough to remember when almost everyone was that skinny? In the pre-high fructose corn syrup everywhere and pre-gigantic portions era (among other factors).

Bad news for the Mach 1

Mike-  I have a 429 CJ as well, and have had the same thing occur a few times.  Normally I'm just out rumbling around at low speed / low rpm, granny shifting it.  I did my street racing in the early 80's.  Some idiot in what I think was a Lexus SC400 came flying up beside me in a restricted part...

Full Assembly of the Ram Air System

I am amazed to see all of the cars with factory air cleaner assemblies now. In the late 70's and early 80's it was the first thing we pitched into the dumpster, if the previous owner hadn't already done so.

A/C Not working, where do I start?

I take it you have no recourse as far as getting the AC working. You said AC was one of the reasons you bought the car, but was it represented to you as functioning or did they tell you it wasn't working and only needed a recharge? (the usual reason) Was this a private sale or classic car...

    Price range in 1971

It was still doable in the 60's and 70's however. My parents didn't make a whole lot of money, they did ok for the era, yet they had new cars every other year. Next door neighbor was a Chevy salesman, and they cursed the issues with almost each one and then they bought the next Chevy and...

Bad news for the Mach 1

This sucks big time and I'm glad you're ok. I think of this each time I take out one of my cars. You have to almost be looking 360 degrees to see which stupid moves are being made. Drivers are more distracted than ever these days, and there are many more cars on the road in general compared...

Mex Shelby for sale, very unusual

That pic is trying to trick your mind into thinking you're getting a $295K car for the value price of $22K.  lol

Mex Shelby for sale, very unusual

I like the second pic in the CL ad, showing a '65 GT350 selling for $295K at Barrett-Jackson. Same car being sold in the ad, right? ;)

    Ram Air opening question

The actuators on mine presumably stopped working ages ago. The vacuum hoses weren't even run there when I bought the car (429 CJ-R). The flaps are in the open / full throttle position so the ram air is always engaged. I don't drive in rain so it isn't an issue. Just for laughs I should...

    Dog dish caps

My '71 J code originally came with 15" Magnums and still has them, with the frosted center rather than polished. I have to say though, Ford probably had the best looking center cap and trim ring combination out of all the auto makers back then. To make a regular steel wheel look that cool is...

How do you total a Sprint in restoration?

I don't believe the Sprint package commands much if any price premium over a "regular" Mustang. As always it's based on drivetrain combination and other factors. I think it is a cool package however, and I'm pretty sure it was a Sprint Mustang Matchbox that originally got me into this style of...

    1971 J-code Mach 1 project in DE

Thanks to Mike Berardi I have 1 of those 230.  It's the only classic car my 21 year old Autistic son will ride in.  Calls it the old car, but it doesn't seem that old to me.  Windows down (power, no AC) and getting on it under a bridge overpass he is laughing like a goon.  :)

    Dang...

Man that sucks, I feel for you. It isn't a classic era Mustang, but it's a late model Mustang and I'm sure it is special to you. Certainly not like your beater Hyundai was wiped out. You probably wouldn't want to keep that car even if the insurance company paid for the repairs. Unfortunately...

    2021 Ford Mustang 4-Door

Yes the few news items I saw indicated that this was an expansion of the Mustang line. That kind of sucks, but as long as the two door high performance V8 ICE variation will still be around, then so be it. "Mustang" is the only recognizable car name they have left.

    71 Mustang 302 Fuel economy!

That was a rare factory option to help you get closer to 20 MPG. ;)

    71 429 on ebay

Dig that rear spoiler- I wonder what it is from. Looks familiar but I can't place it. It has a mix of different parts and should be fun to drive. Non numbers-matching means it shouldn't go for excessively big money.

    Recommended Performance Motor Swap

Well I'd take a engine that is weak at idle, as long as it was strong while accelerating. ;) Sounds like you are geared up to spend money on it, but step back and evaluate the critical values of the present engine. If it's a 429 that's still something good to work from, a torque monster...

    Recommended Performance Motor Swap

Is it a original 429 car with a numbers-matching or at least date-correct block? if so, it's of course up to you but you should probably rebuild that one and keep it in the car from a historical perspective. Do you agree with your shop that it's weak? What are compression and other readings...

    Urethane front bumper

Or, since you have a Boss 351 tribute theme going there, install a chrome front bumper and call it a day. Then repair the urethane front bumper on the side as time permits.

    Odd Color Combos

At least there was a choice for the interior back in the classic era. Now you can get anything you like as long as it's black or gray. Another one from back then that I think would sear the eyeballs is red exterior with a red interior. lol
