so this gives you an idea of the current condition.  I replaced the battery connectors, but did not have the new battery wires at the time.  its not helpful that the ground wire is red...I also should have cut off the corroded bit, but the wire was so short I really couldn't.  I'm ordering new...

I just put in a new battery, and replaced both battery connectors, BUT, I did not replace the battery cables themselves, which are horrible and corroded. I will order some new cables.
