    does this stance look right?

To me that looks like the stock stance, or even a level stance taking into account the slight incline. Many stock musclecars came with that type of stance, with the rear end a little lower. It looks like the car is ready to pounce when standing still. Actually I think your rear end would be a...

    1973 Mustang II lol

Just like the original Mustang, the Mustang II was the right idea at the right time. They sold quite well in their first few years due to the gas crisis / manipulation by OPEC. People were dumping traditional musclecars left and right for low prices. Later, Iacocca had another great idea with...

My friends latest restoration, 1968 HO Firebird

Absolutely beautiful work, high precision. I love that Firebird, and that body color along with the black vinyl top is what my '68 GTO 400 4 speed had back in 1980 when it was only a 12 year old car. I was, and still am to a large degree a big Pontiac fan. I did not like when that division...

    A FAMILY MEMBER

That third pic with the sun reflecting off of the paint is awesome. I found a little more info in another thread, that the Boss was ordered on Christmas Eve 1970 after coming home from service, and that it has 31000 original miles. Quite a memory to have.

David you had a user-friendly insurance company and good overall situation with your unblemished driving record then. Steadily increasing insurance costs are always mentioned as one of the reasons for the end of the original musclecar era. It may not have been the case in '64 or '65 but was a...

    Early 1971 (Aug 70) differences?

I don't even see the point of it all. Would the car be worth $20K more with those "rare" brackets? Maybe they originally held the rare factory supercharger option in '71. lol As for the seat cushion, as stated anyone can plainly see it was reupholstered in the closest fabric the shop had...

    A FAMILY MEMBER

Incredible to have owned the car for that long! Has it been well-maintained / low mileage over the years, or has it been restored? What is the back story- how you came about purchasing it, the job you had in order to afford the car and the insurance, and so forth. Did you come across any...

It's worth $500 more if the tires were inflated. ;)

    Best R12 replacement

David-  I enjoy your posts and you make a compelling case for Duracool.  If it is truly a better refrigerant I wonder why the auto manufacturers don't use it.  I heard of it being used quite a bit in places like Mexico, and I assumed it was because they don't seem to value human life as much...

    Best R12 replacement

IMO R12 for automotive and R22 for residential are the two best refrigerants ever made by mankind. Ask any old timer hvac tech about R22. The replacement refrigerants for each must be run at higher pressures as they are not as efficient. I see people switching over to R134a in old cars and I...

1972 MUstang Mach 1 Mecum Denver

I'm with you on this- in fact if the auction company wanted to make more they'd have all pretty girls out among the crowd.  They do have a few as it stands now, and I saw one guy get a nice big hug after he bought his whatevermobile.  Also, notice that drinking of alcohol is highly encouraged at...

1972 MUstang Mach 1 Mecum Denver

I'm surprised it sold for as much as it did. I logged into my Mecum account and it said $29,700. Many things up front do not line up, plus the bent bumper. It almost looks like the hood is not locked down all the way. On that driver's side view, the exhaust seems to end under the middle of...

I think I just blew up my A/C

I believe the rev limiter for the 429 SCJ was at 6150 rpm's, and AC was not offered for those cars. I know you don't have the 429 SCJ but it tells you they did not want to have the AC compressor running at that rpm level. I think the rev limiter would have been set at 5800 rpm's for my 429 CJ...

    Cowl

These cars leaked when new, so it's almost guaranteed 46+ years later. Also, is this a daily driver where it sits out in the rain? Probably not the optimum environment for a car you are looking to restore. But if that's what you have to do then so be it. I did the same thing when these types...

    CAR CONNECTIONS 2

Yes true, but not all of their ideas were golden.  There was a passenger side crash chamber that one would crawl into to lessen the impact.  To be fair, at that time the safety of the big three was questionable as well.  Seat belts, who needs those...  ;)  And a engine derived from a helicopter...

    Found a Mexican 1973 Mach 1

That's a bad hit on a unibody car. Looks like the car had the four wheel steering option. It would surely be crabbing down the road after being repaired. They say steel has memory, but even after the best frame machine operator in the world worked on that car, I would not trust it. Looks...

Just when you yhink you have heard it all....

Yes that is the key statement: "most of the original rust has been carefully preserved with filler". Would the original rust be the rust from the factory? And at least it was carefully preserved. I would hate to see a rush job done with this.

    conv top

Wow that second car, the '73 with the slotted aluminum wheels, has a particularly striking interior / exterior color combination. My first car in '80 was a Verdoro Green '68 Pontiac GTO. I am a big fan of green, even like frogs. lol

    1972 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Q code engine - $16500

Apart from the usual damage and rust checks, paint thickness gauge all around, etc. this could be the elusive decent car at a fair price. Things like hood blackout, hood locks, and so forth have been added quite often over the decades. I do cringe however when I see the metal being pulled down...

    Engine capacity conundrum

Smartphone camera using flash and a bit of trial and error should work. Silly Putty is a excellent idea!
