429CJ Mach 1 on FBMP in PA.

That was only 20 or so minutes from me (not looking however). There has to be more of a story here. WAY too inexpensive even if it needs to be completely reassembled. I doubt there is a person remaining on the planet who doesn't know the value of a factory 429 car. Love that interior /...

"Squeeky" suspension on my '73 Mach 1

This is probably not your issue and I only offer it as a suggestion. Back in the mid-1980's I had a '79 Trans Am 400 4 speed. Only had 30,000 miles on it but I had a nasty squeak going over bumps. With the t-roofs out on a summer evening I could of course hear it more clearly, and I had to...

    Mustang Times photoshoot

What a great writeup- you should be very proud. I'm going to have to locate a hard copy of the magazine. I never realized that Grave Robbers did the sheet metal on this car. And given where you are from, somehow you did not end up in a AMX!

    Help Removing Trim 1966 Galaxie

My condolences- makes me sick to my stomach to see that and hear of how it occurred. I have had Hagerty on two cars for quite some time but never had to use them. Glad to hear that things seem to have gone smoothly with them. Guess you determined that it was not worth repairing the original...

    1971 351C valve cover help

Unfortunately what you are describing with pricing has happened all over the place. Trying to complete a pool project and quotes from electricians have gone up at least 3X since 2020.

    Help Removing Trim 1966 Galaxie

By the way, beautiful car, you really don't see many of those any longer. Had a buddy with one in the early 1980's. Looks to be in great condition. Are you removing these items for some sort of bodywork? 390 in it perhaps?

What do you say when asked if it's a Mach 1, but it's not?

A non-car guy visiting my house looked at my '71 Mach 1 J-code in the garage and asked if it was a "Mach 11". He was close anyway and I didn't make a big deal out of it. When I was in high school (late 1970's) one of our friends had a red '73 Mustang with the base 302, side pipes, and louvers...

    Gas Smell

I know my '71 J-Code Mach 1 definitely has a strong gas smell in the garage after shutting it down. Dissipates after a little while and I also run a exhaust vent in the garage. My vapor canister is not there and I'm not sure about the line from the tank to the firewall.

    Electric AC?

A interesting idea, and it's certainly ok to discuss. My wife's old 1999 Expedition Eddie Bauer had four wheel air suspension with the compressor located in the passenger side front corner of the engine compartment. Didn't kick on very often but when it did you could feel the vibration in the...

    hi my name is Mila

Thanks for the explanation of your situation and why you were banned on the other forum. Mustang restoration can obviously be a male or female activity. In all honesty it is a heavily male-oriented hobby and activity however. I think what some people were concerned about is that people posing...

My beautiful 72 convertible - Wrecked & Ruined

It sickens me to see that, especially considering the other factors (lack of valid license, insurance, plates). It is probably my greatest fear each time I take one of my cars out. For years now, look at all of the drivers texting and using their smartphones in other ways while driving. And...

    Correct hood bumpers?

Here is a pic of my driver's side hood bumper, which matches what is shown on the 429 Megasite. Still looking around trying to find a duplicate. That same nut/washer combo is also below the radiator support. Please ignore the black painted hood lock extension. Someday... ;)

    Restore or buy

Interesting- even fourteen years ago this hobby was far less expensive than now. You probably had a decent purchase price for the car, with the bulk of the additional money being spent on sheet metal replacement and paint I'm guessing? I got into the hobby late 1970's when pretty much no one...

    Correct hood bumpers?

Thanks- I should have thought to look on the 429 Megasite as I have spent a lot of time on there in the past. Well my driver's side hood bumper looks just like the one on the 429 site. There is a nut below the radiator support and another nut above the support to allow for height adjustment...

    Correct hood bumpers?

Hello- My '71 Mach 1 J-code is missing the passenger side front hood bumper. Just to confirm, this is the bolt with a round rubber piece on top to set the front height of the hood. It is a hood lock car so there are extensions off of the radiator support, and that's where the driver's side...

    1972 Mustang at 15

Welcome to the forum! This is IMO the best '71 to '73 forum on the net, with lots of posts per day and knowledgeable memberes. Do you have some kind of moisture barrier on the ground in your makeshift shop? How rusty- things like inner and outer quarter panels, rockers, floor pans, etc.? If...

1973 Mach 1 Fastback Sport roof fold down seat assembly

What a terrible story. Probably happens around the US more than we know about. I am also located in PA and I hope I never come across that restoration shop. Guessing they're out of business by now. At least since your car was originally equipped with the fold down seat option it might not be...

    Battery hold down question

Thanks for the responses guys. I wasn't sure if there was a Ford part number for this piece, and it sounds like the caged nut will do the trick. What size did you go with? It also looked like the J-bolts on NPD are taller than original but I'll have to read that again. I just have a slight...

Can you widen that notch with a dremel tool or perhaps something better, without causing excess damage to that beautiful paint?

    Door panel manufacturer suggestions

A non-helpful post, but just wanted to say this Ginger interior color by Ford was a beautiful option. Maybe it's just me, as I also like green interiors. ha My '71 Mach 1 has a black interior but the color is broken up by the Comfortweave seats, which again was another great Ford innovation...
