I think there could be a self resetting overload inside the motor. This is shown on the 71 and 72 diagrams but not the 73. If this could be verified maybe that could be added to 73 mrmghale diagram.

Is your alternator meter a volt meter or an amp meter?

Do you have an alternator gauge that reads D and an alternator light that is on?

Hi Ryunker, Pdf diagram will show the 71 stock choke hookup. Jpg diagram will show the resistor wire you may not have noticed. I just installed my resistor wire bypass and tach conversion, but didn't use the wire yet until I buy a 12V coil. happy trails ken Ryunker.pdf

Yes, wire 297 is resistor wire from ignition switch to C-211 on non tach/guage system.  The wire 297 from wiper switch to connector C-307 is not shown as a resistor wire on the 1973_full.pdf, but I think it is.  Maybe you could verify that?  I can't tell if you have gauges or lights. Ken    71fast
