I need to change out my pinion seal and have searched the archives

with no luck with anyone mentioning the size of the nut.

Gotta get everything together before I start.

Yes i will index everything and put it back the way it was!

What size socket do I need to buy?

TIA

Paul

It should be 1-1/16" you will need a deep socket.

If the 3rd member is not off the car you will need to remove the nose from the 3rd member.

However you need to know if you have lapped gears or not, lapped gears will need the 3rd member removed so you can index the gear teeth correctly. Non lapped means you can remove the nose and install it on any teeth on the ring gear.

You need a inch pound torque wrench to properly set the preload on the new crush sleeve.

You need the nose in a vice and you will be applying 200 ft pounds of torque to crush the sleeve and get the preload right. Over shoot the preload and you start all over with a new crush sleeve.

You will need a 4-6 foot breaker bar to make it happen.

The preload can be different if you have aftermarket gears. The manual will state the preload for used or new bearings. You will be setting preload for used bearings. Aftermarket gears come with a spec sheet for new and used as well.
