The driveshaft is 48" which was shorter than I had hoped (and also about 3/4" shorter than it probably should be). Because this wouldn't be a direct swap with an explorer driveshaft (~51") I decided to have a local shop balance the shaft I have and Ill put new U-joints in it and see where things stand after reinstalling. The shaft and rear end joints are 1310 and the transmission yoke is 1330.I confirmed (by the wheel spinning method) that the rear is indeed 3.00 gears. The rear end seems to be fairly tight although the driver side bearings aren't as smooth as I would like them to feel. I'll put that on the list of things to watch. I need to drain and fill the axle and install new seals all around.I began to adjust the rear brakes and I quickly found out that they weren't doing anything. I was able to get the passenger side adjusted but the driver side wheel cylinder is frozen. I was going to buy new shoes and hardware but quickly found out there are 2 different sizes to choose from. Being that this is Frankenstein and everything up to this point has been cobbled together, how do I verify which brake size is supposed to be on the axle? What specifically determines which brake size (backing plate?)? It currently has the 10" x 2" brakes on it but I don't want to just assume anything anymore with this car.
