    Wheel Tire Package

Ok, after a lot of inter-web surfing, researching and thinking, I've settled in on what wheels and tires I think I want on my '73. Front: P225/45/R18 on 18x7 alloy wheels with a 4" backspace Overall tire dimensions 26" diameter, 8.9 tread width, 4" sidewall Rear: P255/45/R18 on 18x8 wheels...

    Fuel gauge sender

I did a test by unplugging the fuel sender and running a jumper between the two terminals in the plug. With the ignition on my fuel gauge read full. This is telling me the issue is with the sender and not the dash gauge. As I read the catalogue I take it some models had a low fuel light? How do...

    Fuel gauge sender

My fuel gauge isn't working, stays on 1/8 tank whenever the keys on. I'm suspecting the sender float is bad. How hard is it to access the sending unit? Do you have to drop the tank?

    Every car has a story...

Build sheets were put in the cars? Haven't heard about this yet. I'll be looking when I do interior work.

So, I had to break into my car today....

Nuthin to them slick knobs... I defeated them long ago. Bend the coat hanger into a tight loop at an angle, drop the loop over the slick knob from the side and then pull straight up The loop binds up on the knob and tugs it right open.

    Every car has a story...

I first saw my car back about 2009 or 2010. It was driven to a party I was at and was the first fat Mustang I'd seen in ages. I'd wanted something classic to tinker with and it stayed in my mind. A couple of years go by and I inquired about the car from the owners son. The story on the car was...

    Ignition lock

Yes, I was aware of that and I planned to go have keys made like that rather than re-pin the doors.

    Ignition lock

A new wheel/tire package is at the top of the to do list. Until then it'll only be driven low speeds around town.

    Ignition lock

Finally! Mission Success! I have my 73 re-keyed and driving! It took 2 tries at installing the new column lock, ruined the first one. Was able to bring the brand new 5 yr old Die Hard back to life. Total cost to get it back on the road.... $39 for 2 lock assemblies and about $30 worth of fresh...

    Ignition lock

With my new keyed lock in hand I drilled the old lock out this evening. It drilled easier than I thought it would but I missed center and had to hog it out more to get it out. No discernible damage to the column but I couldn't get the new locks release pin to lock it into place. In the process...

    Ignition lock

Well, while I started the day out with great promise, I didn't get unlocked today. What I did do was get the old fuel out of the car, the lines purged and got the engine cranked up for the first time in several years. It's runs smooth, purrs like a kitten and didn't smoke. Now I'm really...

    Ignition lock

Ok, after 2 weeks of this here's where I am... After talking to both the locksmith and the Ford dealer they both pointed me at each other saying they couldn't do anything. I was resolved to drilling and replacing the column lock when things started to go more my way. I discovered pulling the...

I'm not sure what the color is... I just call it brown. We bought a brand new '73 Gran Torino the same color. I'll have to look it up and see what it's official name is.

    Chrome bumper or not?

Ok... Just getting into this, but... I learned something. I was really thinking I wanted to change my 73 to chrome bumper and chrome around the fenders and across the hood, but reading this it might not be possible.

    Ignition lock

Wondering how complicated it is to change out the ignition switch/wheel lock switch on my 73. I have the keys, but cannot get the ignition key to work at all. The key is very worn and loose in the ignition switch, but I can't get it to turn at all no matter how I wiggle or jiggle the steering...
