    Ugly Step Sister

I had a 72 comet, which is the sister to your maverick. Aside from both being ford rear wheel drive cars, there really wasn't much in common with mustangs. General information about the drivetrain will carry over. Thats about it. None of the body or interior parts are the same besides like...

‘73 Mach 1 in search of a 351 Cleveland and factory transmission replacement.

There's a lot of little parts involved. Getting a transmission that'll fit in the car is easy. Getting one with all the correct linkages and lines and crossmember is harder. If you want to keep it close to original, best bet is to find a clapped out parts car with everything you need...

    Engine failure after 20000 km.

Based on the way you describe the lifter for #2, I agree. The lifter is trashed. That cam lobe is probably nuked even if you can't see it. Time for a new cam. Since covid, the global supply for flat tappet cam cores and lifters seems to have gone downhill. The small percent of brand new...

    Engine failure after 20000 km.

I think OP has discovered the downside to more engine wear. Things wear until they break.

Researching for a Mach 1 to Purchase

You've probably come to the right place if you're wanting a 71-73 mach1. We dont generally cover the 69-70, or the reboot around 2000 or the re-reboot around 2022. Do you have specific questions? The big thing to look for will be if what you're looking at is the real car or a fake, has it...

Can I start the engine briefly without the alternator?

Many a car has been sent down the drag strip with no alternator. Bracket race and circle track guys commonly don't run one, up to like 100 laps. One thing to look out for is your belt routing. In some setups, the alternator belt is what runs the water pump. Make sure you have a belt that...

    Engine failure after 20000 km.

I have a couple of these cars still with the 2.75:1. They'll spin the tires (or just the 1 tire if its an open diff). I think the only time you see a benefit from having a numerically higher gear in these cars is when you stomp on the gas from 0 to however fast you want to go. The rest of the...

    Engine failure after 20000 km.

The 55mph speed limit did go into effect in 1974. That means it would have been discussed and voted on for several years prior. If 55 did not seem like a generally sensible speed limit, it would not have made it through to become law. At the time it was enacted in 1974, 12 of our states...

    Engine failure after 20000 km.

What are you allowed to change without losing your classic car status? These cars were made back when 55mph seemed like a good idea for a national speed limit. They were not setup to cruise at 120km/h and pass people at 150km/h on long road trips. They can certainly get that fast if you need...

    Engine failure after 20000 km.

I was thinking it was the pushrod bent badly, then chafed up the side. Cause the other pushrod bent and isn't chafed. My vote is the same thing caused them both to bend.

    Engine failure after 20000 km.

That seems like there's only so many things that could happen to bend pushrods, but the engine still runs. Its not like you broke a timing chain, cause then it would have stopped. Were these stock parts or some aftermarket stuff?

    351c issues MAYBE

Thats what I thought, too. Detonation during load/acceleration. My guess is too much timing at that RPM+vacuum+load combination.

    Worth keeping old parts?

It says holley street dominator. Single plane intake that came on my 351H code car. I swapped it for a dual plane during the great engine rebuild of 2023.

    Worth keeping old parts?

I'm at the point where I have to pick and chose what parts to keep and which to get rid of. I cleaned up my mom's yard and tossed out a few original 73 fenders that needed a little TLC. I listed them for cheap and nobody wanted them. I got a 351C holley intake nobody wants short of giving it...

Need help identifying this part and where it goes on my 71 Mach 1

Yep. And its still got the clips on it. should just press right into place with no tools.

    Wideband afr value

What I was suggesting was put it in the bottom hole, not the top one. Putting it in the bottom hole should make it pump more fuel right when you give it some beans. That would allow you to change the spring and rod away from the most extreme rich corner of the calibration chart, which would...

1/4 miles times and horsepower - seeking expert opinions

First time you put slicks on it and launch it, you learn which parts were the weak links. Probably don't wanna be learning that on power tour unless there are a lot of vendors there with all sorts of spare parts and tools for sale. :D

    Wideband afr value

OP's running an edelbrock carb. He's running what I would call rich and he's at calibration 17, which is at the extreme rich corner of the chart. I would say lean it out according to the chart. I would try calibration 14 or 4. And then to get rid of the lean condition right off the line...

    Car Insurance

When I did my policy through Hagerty, they played 20 questions and it included how the cars are parked/stored. They accepted garage, driveway, pole barn. I don't remember if they were OK with street parking. I do know they had a problem with the terminology of "I park that MOFO in the yard"...
