    351C Rebuild - Heads

So, I think it's time to rebuild my 351C 2V for my '71. My reasoning ... 1) the nylon timing gear is shredded (learned that with help from another post), 2) I already knew there is lower compression in a couple cylinders, 3) the engine is already half out, given I had to raise it to remove the...

    oilpan removal 351C

Thanks for the info. Mine must be in bad shape with all the shards down in the pan. I did a quick check on the timing chain movement, and if I did the math right there's about 24 degrees of slop! Not to mention from beneath I can see at least one chipped tooth on the cam gear.

    oilpan removal 351C

Wow! I had assumed those were all cast iron. If those shards are really from the nylon cam sprocket, it's a wonder the engine even runs! There's easily a 1/4 cup of pieces that came out of that pan. Unless someone already replaced the gear at some point. Looks like something else I need to...

    oilpan removal 351C

Thanks for the help, everyone. I got the pan off, and did not need to remove the oil pump or turn the crank. And it's a good thing I pulled the pan. The sump area was filled with little pieces of what looks like broken, hard plastic. Any guesses what this used to be and where it came from?

    oilpan removal 351C

So, I've added enough bolts back in the pan to keep it from moving under the jack. What did you find is the best way to prop the engine to support it and allow clearance for the pan. Pic attached. Did you remove the mount bolts at the block and place the 2x4 there (A)? Or, remove the bolt at...

    oilpan removal 351C

Thanks. Hopefully, the 2x4 will be enough clearance for mine also. I'll let you know how it goes.

    oilpan removal 351C

So, I got into the project of removing the 351C oil pan on my 71, thinking the sway bar would be the only obstacle. I'm reading now that you need to loosen motor mounts, jack up the engine and support with blocks, and also remove the oil pump before the pan can be removed. Somehow, mycoses...

    stainless steel brake lines

Planning to replace all the brake lines on my '71. Good thought about using clear coat to protect them. I was considering painting them with chassis black, but I assume when the cars rolled off the lot, the brake lines were not painted?

    351 Cleveland 2V awful noise

With my first Mustang, I accidentally installed a 351W distributor in my Cleveland engine. Can't remember how long the engine ran (poorly) before the camshaft gear was ground down. Since you were able to drive it a few miles, I don't know this would be the problem, but it will be interesting...

Help? '73 Mach 1, Not sure what to go for the paint and theme.

The P-51 Mustang look is very cool and clever. Would certainly turn heads, but would probably also be the most difficult and expensive option. Good luck and have fun!

    Mach 1 Bumper

Thanks for the info, guys. So, sounds like I have a '73 bumper to fix up and sell to someone who can use it. Did the chrome and urethane bumpers use the same brackets in 71/72?

    Mach 1 Bumper

Hi Everyone, Long-time Mustang owner, first-time '71 owner. I'm looking for some help with the Mach 1 bumper. I came across a '73 urethane bumper, complete with the frame/brackets (heavy!) at a good price. Needs a little work, but is repairable. I've since learned that 71/72 bumpers are...
