1973 Mach 1 Fastback Sport roof fold down seat assembly

The seat back cushion and seat bottom cushion for the fold down are the same as non fold down Mach 1s/ sports roofs. Two types of upholstery, standard or the optional Mach 1 sports interior. Coupes and convertibles use different cushions than Mach 1s / Sports roofs. I have various fold down...

1973 Mach 1 Fastback Sport roof fold down seat assembly

71, 72, and 73 are all the same. Converting to a fold down is NOT simply a bolt in conversion. There are numerous welded in backets etc. unique to fold downs that are not there on non fold down Mach 1s. The standard seat back and package tray welded in supports must be removed, prior to...

    Tachometer help!

About question 1, I had the same problem originally. I don't recall if this little black box came with the Holley EFI carb or the Hyperspark dist. See photos. Once I hooked up the little box, the factory tach worked. As I recall I talked to Holley technical over the phone to learn this is...

    Blower fan

Yes, AC max recirculates the interior air which progressively cools it down. Normal AC draws in outside air and cools it down. Sense Max re-cools the interior air, cool down is faster. Fan speed is controlled separately by the fan speed switch.

    Winglets!!!!!

1969 and 1970 Mach 1 rear spoilers also looked very much like the 71-73 version. Although, 69 and 70s had a turned up rear edge of the trunk and quarter extensions separate from the spoiler.

    Help with Speedo cable lube

Not sure what you mean by jumping. However, I had an issue once with the speedometer needle being erratic while driving after I had removed the gage cluster and reinstalled. Turned out the speedo cable was not fully snapped onto the back of the speedo. Snapping it in position was not easy...

    Electric Choke and Wiring

Wow! Great info on the electric chokes both factory and aftermarket. To help with 73 wiring around the battery, junction block, and regulator, on cars with ammeters and the tach as well as where electrical options rear defrost, convenience group, power windows connect when equipped with...

Can I start the engine briefly without the alternator?

Yes, Car will start and run for a while just with the battery powering the ignition system. No damage should occur. It is similar to the alternator failing while driving, the car will run for a while gradually drawing down the battery.

    Are these hoses connected correctly?

4V and 2V are same with regard to the hoses in question. There is supposed to be a special "S" shaped hose used between firewall heater hose connection and the vacuum controlled valve. That "S" hose keeps that valve up higher off of the valve cover. That special hose used to be reproduced...

    Electric Choke and Wiring

70 amp alternators are correct for 73 Mach 1s that have factory rear defrost. I believe 55 or 61 amp without the rear defrost. Connections to the 70 amp alternator are different than for the lower amp alternators. 73 was the only year to use the 70 amp alt. This was do to the 73 rear...

    Electric Choke and Wiring

The white black factory choke wire is connected to the white black wire to the alternator. No need to run another wire unless your wire harness(es) are damaged, modified or suspect. You could check continuity from the alternator back white wire to the choke black white wire, there should be...

Color bands on rear springs and tail shaft? What should the color be?

I believe, based on the built sheet shown, the drive shaft color stripes/bands are Lavender (LA), Red (R), Dark Green (DG), and Orange (OR). What front and rear universals and transmission yoke are used with the shaft assembly would likely be defined on an internal Ford document used to build...

    Are these hoses connected correctly?

The orange is correct. It is for recovering fuel vapor from the gas tank. Fuel vapor is pushed into the blue canister generally while the car is off and the gas tank heats up while sitting on hot pavement or generally heats up on a warm day. There should also be a paper tube that also...

    My Mustang Mach1

Wow, great looking low mileage Mach. I noticed it has a front spoiler. Do you know if it was delivered to Finland with it? I bought my 73 Mach 1 in January of 1978 and it had both the front and rear spoilers. The 73 body assembly manual shows it as standard (not RPO (regular production...
