The Rickster - a 73 Mach 1 work in progress

I've been meaning to post an update, but not much to report. I've run into problems getting the door glass lined up, and getting the rear window trim attached. I also ran into problems with the brake proportioning valve, but I think I have that finally sorted. To make a long story short, if...

Headliner Bow Install for 71 Mach

They are all different lengths. If you stand them all together on end, they run from front to rear. I don't remember if the longer ones are in the front or rear, but that should be easy enough to figure out. I had no idea what hole each came out of, so I just started by putting them in the...

    Metal thickness

I found it to be closer to 19 gauge - just a hair thicker than 20 gauge - so I used 18 gauge for the patches I had to fab up for the Rickster.

    Well that sucks

Kilgon, I'm saddened to hear of your wife's accident, but thankful that it wasn't worse. I fractured my fibula near the ankle, back when I was younger, but at least I have a great story to tell (skydiving). Now, I am no longer young and immortal, so the wife tries to keep me from having so...

    Questions about deluxe door install…

The deluxe door handles don't mate up to the standard latch release assembly. You'll need to make an adapter or get deluxe latch releases. MrGMHale (Gilbert Hale) has a YouTube video on repairing it. In the next few days, I'll be making my own adapters to get them to mate up correctly. I'll...

Ram Air and Pertronix II Billet distributor question

Hey Tom, The height is a little tricky, because bottom dishes down below the top of the carb/throttle body. I placed a ruler across the top of the air cleaner metal edges and found that the top edge is about 3-1/2" above the seat on my Sniper EFI throttle body. I measured the Sniper throttle...

Ram Air and Pertronix II Billet distributor question

Hey Tom, You are correct that the Ram Air intake won't sit down over the Pertronix Billet distributor unless you use a spacer under the car. With the carb spacer, the ram air intake will sit up high enough to clear it, but then won't let the hood close. I had a 1/2" spacer to allow the air...

Help finding a replacement heater hose fitting in the block

When I built the engine for the Rickster, I had to get a new one. I found it at my local O'Reilly's. Part #84716 Line: MRY. They call it "Murray Climate Control 5/8 Inch Press Fitting". Their price at my local O'Reilly's is $5.79...

    Under engine crossmember

I ran into supply problems trying to find a Sniper EFI system for the Rickster, too. Even Holley said it would be the end of October before they would be back in stock, butI found one out in Iowa at a shop I don't recall ever hearing of before. With that being said, many places may not stock...

Can I remove the rear window without destroying the gasket?

I guess I will order get the gasket and more bedding compound on order. It's getting so close to getting on the road (for the first time in who knows how many decades), but the glass (both the door glass and rear window) is driving me nuts. I've lost so much time worrying over it, getting...

Can I remove the rear window without destroying the gasket?

Well, I have the rear window installed in the Rickster and placed the bedding compound, but I have been unable to get the trim to snap into the clips. I did use the foam tape on the ledge and I wonder if that is lifting the gasket enough to keep the clips from engaging. Also, since I replaced...

    Steering Linkage grade-what's the difference?

I second the Gil and Tim's comments. I use Timken bearings for rebuilding the differential and also for wheel bearings, but I used Timken brand wheel bearing grease instead of Mobil 1. Likewise, I also use Moog steering components and Bendix and Raybestos brake parts. If it's a critical...

    Door glass alignment

Thanks. I had the door aligned before I put the weatherstrip in, but the pressure moved it out a bit. I fixed that today, and will go back to the manual to see if I can get the glass aligned. I'll let you know how it goes.

The Rickster - a 73 Mach 1 work in progress

I had some 18 or 20 gauge sheet steel that I cut to fit. Used CAD (cardboard aided design) to make a pattern and then added rivnuts to the frame and secured the panel with #8-32 x 1/2 inch machine screws. The pieces on the ends were more challenging, but I formed them around my knee and got...

    Door glass alignment

I have the stationary quarter windows in place and the door windows installed. Now I am having a major headache getting the windows to align. I have the bottom of the quarter window adjusted all the way out, and the door glass adjusted as best I can. I have worked on it, walked away, come...

The Rickster - a 73 Mach 1 work in progress

Thanks, guys. :) More progress. Drip rail and weatherstrip mouldings around the door have been installed, and the weatherstrip around the doors finally installed. With that finished, I was able to install the quarter windows. Once installed, I was able to try to get the door glass aligned...

    Rear window gasket gap

I have the rear window installed and everything looks good, except that on the passenger side, there is a gap where the gasket wants to stick up about 1/16" or so from the glass. I can roll it over and it lays down, but when released it pops back up. I have not yet installed bedding...

Door release mechanisms for deluxe door panel

Thanks, Bill. I checked it out, and it appears that the mechanism is for the standard door panel and not the deluxe door panel. Appreciate the thought, though.

Door release mechanisms for deluxe door panel

I didn't even know I had this upcoming problem, until I saw this post. Can anyone that has one handy provide some measurements of that tab? I've got some 14 gauge steel laying around, and also some 1/8", so it should be pretty straightforward to make the tab if I know the dimensions. Thanks...

The Rickster - a 73 Mach 1 work in progress

Well, it's been a while since I've posted an update, but I have made some progress. I've gotten the nacelles (nostrils) installed, and the plumbing for the ram air is sorted. I've gotten Kilmat placed over the panel separating the passenger compartment from the trunk. The FAST EZ-EFI...
