    Tim's 1973 Mach 1 rebuild thread - it's done in 2023 on it's 50th birthday!

Awesome job, Tim. You're making good progress, and it's looking really good.

How to install a rear window on a 71-73 fastback

Better to reply late, than never. It looks like NPD has it. PVC FOAM SEALER TAPE, .25 inch thick x .75 inch wide x 12 foot long, black closed cell foam tape, self adhering, one roll required per car. Their part number is 516A02-5A.

Does anyone have a good aftermarket source for this part? I figured maybe I could find it in the HELP section at Autozone, but no luck.

I got one, recently, from Don at Ohio Mustang Supply. I would be surprised if he doesn't have a few more of them.

The Rickster - a 73 Mach 1 work in progress

And just like that, more hours have passed, and more stuff has gotten done to the Rickster. I was able to get the headlight doors attached, as well as the front valance and front spoiler. I found Qcode's old YouTube video on installing the front spoiler. It was super helpful and definitely...

The Rickster - a 73 Mach 1 work in progress

I've been working and making progress. I was able to get the steering column installed without to much trouble. The wiring is pretty much complete. I built a small relay panel for the key buzzer and headlight warning chime. It took a while to get it sorted, but I finally got the...

    Fender Extension Seals Needed?

I used them when reassembling my Mach 1. Looking at the body assembly manual, it appears they are used on front fender extensions and the rear quarter extensions.

73 Mustang Fixed Steering wheel with a gap between ignition housing and column tube

It sounds like the 2 T-bolts did not engage in the little, square cut-outs in the lower column shroud. When you turn the key, it pushes the rod connecting the key to the actual ignition switch farther down the column, forcing the upper shroud out. Starting the nuts only a couple threads...

    Repairable Rust?

Great info, Lazarus. I've got an 76 Bronco to restore when the Rickster is done. I wish it was in as good a shape as the Rickster was when I started it, but alas..... But I can save the glass and the instrument panel. I am such a gluten for punishment.

    Repairable Rust?

Ok, so Steve brought it up, but one thing to check. If it's a manual transmission, check the firewall for cracks around the clutch master cylinder. They can be hard to find, but when the clutch is depressed and released, you can see the firewall move. It is fixable, too, but a royal PITA...

    Repairable Rust?

Front fenders and rear quarters and inner wheelhouses are available in the aftermarket. The front fenders are bolt on. Quarters and inner wheelhouses will require welding. With some practice, patience, and perseverance, you can do it yourself, but practice is key. Watch a bunch of YouTube...

    Air Conditioner Compressor Brackets

Well, here is what I did, and it seems to line up perfectly. I unbolted the AC compressor and tied it out of the way, and then removed the moveable portion of the bracket with the slots in it. I measured 3/4" in front of the bolt holes that were there, drilled and tapped 3 new bolt holes to...

    Air Conditioner Compressor Brackets

I thought of that, so I kept the piece I cut off and can weld it back on if needed.

Are there differences in the 1973 steering columns?

Just to close things out, I received the upper collar, D3AA-3511, day before yesterday. Measuring both, I found that the slot for the hazard switch is 1.17" deep, while the slot on the D0AA-3511 upper collar was 0.75". That's close to 7/16" and compared side by side was noticeable, and made a...

    Air Conditioner Compressor Brackets

I talked to tech support at Classic Auto Air and they suggested running all the way over to the alternator with the thinner 7/16" wide belt. I'm not sure I like that, and this is what I have come up with for now. I'm still not sold on it, and I still may modify the bracket that I have to...

The Rickster - a 73 Mach 1 work in progress

Well, some of you may have seen in another post, that I was having problem with my turn signal switch binding when secured in the collar in the steering column. The original one was broken and I had gotten a replacement, which seemed to fit well enough, but the hazard switch bottomed out on the...

The Rickster - a 73 Mach 1 work in progress

I had a gaping hole above the center AC registers, and needed to do something to fill it. I considered just blocking it with a small ABS sheet, but I also liked the idea of a map light. We all know that the map lights are rare, and expensive, so I decided to make one. I used a cardboard...

The Rickster - a 73 Mach 1 work in progress

No pictures, but I am so stoked. I finally got the courtesy lights working, along with the dome light. I've been struggling with how to wire it up for a couple weeks, poring over the wiring diagrams, trying to figure out how to tie it in to the aftermarket wiring harness. Now, when I open...
