    Smoke on start up

Superbond, Dual exhaust ?, does it smoke from both pipes, or just one side ? Were valve guides replaced or just knureled ? Factory cast iron intake manifold or aluminum aftermarket ? Exactly what type and manufacturer of intake manifold gaskets were used? Stock pcv system and rocker covers ...

Newly built engine is leaking coolant and I'm stumped

73Mustangcoup. Definitely a strange place to see coolant. At this point, I wouldn't even rule out a timing cover leak running down the full length of that oil pan rail. Boilermaster

73musstangcoup, Possible porous spot in the engine block casting?

    28 or 31 spline

3.50 and up and Nodular case might be 31 spline, but my parts car does not follow that path. 1973 Q code, 3.50 gearing, nodular center section, Daytona pinion support, 4 pinion and one wheel peel and 28 spline axles . just guessing it had the Daytona and nodular case because it was a toploader...

Newly built engine is leaking coolant and I'm stumped

73mustangcoup. pipe sealant on the block drains and both tight ? coolant could be leaking from there to the oil pan rail to the separator plate. With the engine installed, it is all downhill. same can be said for any of the freeze plugs. I have seen coolant take some pretty weird paths, almost...

    Tremec upgrade.

Tony,, I installed the TKX separately and it was a pain getting the shifter stub thru the shifter opening. I have advised Billw69 to ( pre jossle) his motor mounts and motor mount perches so the rear of the transmission can be biased somewhat to the left, that should help him, both with install...

    Rear main seal

Jayro, Sorry the rope seal is also a two piece seal, start looking for a shop that knows clevelands. One can easily switch from a rope to neoprene just by removing the small spike in the center of the main cap. The neoprene seal should also be clocked so the seal ends are not exactly where the...

    Tremec upgrade.

Billw69' Modern driveline will tell you it will fit, and perhaps yours will. After slightly tweaking motor mounts and motor mount perches, I found that I had to trim the right hand side of the shifter opening slightly (1/4''?). forward gears were ok, just a little snug trying to get reverse. I...

    Traction

Ok brain fart, way back I posted this mod here , search for wheel hop. Hemikiller was kind enough to post a direct link to this mod.

    Traction

bill 1 101 There are 2 ways to go for staggered rear shocks, one is expensive and requires sheet metal and the other is dirt cheap and only requires a trip to the hardware store and salvage yard. from the salvage yard, you will need to get 2 lower shock mounts from a mustang with staggered...

    TMI one piece headliner help

71-429 Mach 1, I had a body shop friend of mine do my 71 sportsroof headliner, I had the interior already gutted and windshield and rear window out. The headliner is supposed to fit under the rear window gasket and windshield, you gotta have a place for the glue to adhere to in those positions...

    Traction

bill 1 101, All good stuff here, do you have staggered rear shocks ? that was a big part of the equation for me. I also added sub frame connectors and under-ride traction bars. Having no wheel hop does not you will have traction, BFG's are for smoke shows, drag radials are for traction.

    Cranking PSI 72 351C 2 bbl

Johnny57 if you have an air compressor, consider buying/ renting a cylinder leakdown tester. it will tell you the percent of leakage of each cylinder and you can also listen/feel where the air is escaping to determine if or where you may have an issue. Like a compression test the results can be...

    Cranking PSI 72 351C 2 bbl

Very well stated Cleveland Crush, nowdays , I usually only use a compression tester as a yes or no tool. If I want to know the health of any particular engine, I break out the leakdown tester, it doesen't care what the cranking compression should be.

    Cranking PSI 72 351C 2 bbl

Machphil is absolutely correct, I must have looked for half an hour for my 1972 vol2. engine manual. johnny57, you are correct about having to account for altitude but I believe you need to add one atmosphere to your equasion.

    Cranking PSI 72 351C 2 bbl

8.6 to 1 cr. should yield 142 psi cranking compression on a warm engine with the throttle wide open. this would be for a factory camshaft. if it's a well sealed engine you are looking for, look for all cylinders to be within 10 psi. of each other. also, one should have all spark plugs removed...

    Going dead at 80 mph

Tommyt, As stanglover suggests, what rpm is this happening ? This does sound like a fuel issue, but could be a loss of spark because of a loose connection . Have you checked your float level and float drop specifications yet?. If you have a stock fuel pump, you sgould be looking for 5-7 PSI at...

what plug wires You got and why ?

Thanks guys much appreciated, next question, were your end terminals single or dual crimp ?. Seems to me the dual crimp would/could be a little stronger. I see that all of the Taylor cut to fit stuff have good reviews on summit. Don, already had Summit 860826 on my short list. Boilermaster

what plug wires You got and why ?

Ok folks, The time has come for new spark plug wires. 408 C with MSD distributor (male tower cap) I am looking for a quality wire set that FITS WELL, none of that 2 wires too short, some that fit ok and some that are a foot too long. I prefer the over the over the rocker cover, but would also...
