Looks like a ballast resistor with a thermal sensor/switch (much like the ones on my dryer and refridgerator). Maybe it cuts current once the engine is warm?
I was just thinking that the end tip being a separate piece it may have been used on something else. Lots of cars and trucks from Ford/Lincoln/Mercury around that time. They could use something like that for 10 years.
One of my favorites was an old war movie, possibly John Wayne, about the battle for Guadalcanal. The US was pulling troops out as the Japanese were coming to invade. Not enough time or ships/planes to get everyone out. Typical dire and depressing tale of "We, who are about to die...".

Well....no sign of it. I can picture it, including the bends. But no clue where it got off to.
I'll keep looking, but don't wait on me if you find another.
That is the info I was looking for.
I may have the bracket you are looking for. If so, it is a little bent, but very salvageable.
I have a bracket. Not sure if it is 71, 71/72, or 73.
Won't know until I retrieve it from storage.
In those days, it seemed that each new generation of Mustang tended to ape the front end styling of the previous generations Shelby. The 69 was very reminiscent of the 68 Shelby and the 71 (with the squared off front end) looked like the 69-70 Shelby. Most specifically the 71 Boss with the...
There is the big green Ford book put out in the 80s. It covers Ford from 1903 or 1904. I seem to recall it had some good chapters on the development of the various Mustang restyling.
This one...
In that case, just find a good block and crank. And spend the good money on the heads you want with someone willing to guarantee the heads aren't cracked. Open chamber 4V heads are reasonably cheap. A late build 71 4V could have open chamber heads and it seems ALL 71 and later 4V heads have the...
70 Sportsroof 302 2V Automatic. Blood Red with Black Interior. Originally Dark Metallic Green with dark green interior. Unknown Mileage, ran great but lifters got clattery on cloverleaf exit ramps! Power steering, manual drum brakes, no a/c. No rust. $2000.
Later found bad rust in front frame rail.
I've contemplated the swap to rear discs as well. My car, 71 M code, has a 3.00 rear. I'm inclined to get an 8.8" rear out of an Explorer. Around 2000, they had leaf springs, 3.73 lsd, and disc brakes.
One side needs to be shortened to get the right width and the differential centered, but it...
