    '71 Shock tower

Actually, the Coyote engine weighs less than Ford small blocks. The Coyote weighs 430 to 445 pounds, the 351C weighs 550 pounds and the 302 460 pounds. The lighter engine weight may be offset by the transmission weight, though. For instance, the 6R80 transmission weighs around 70 pounds more...

Shuts Off on Reverse and Slow to Run

If you didn't change anything else, like adjusting the timing or carburetor adjustments, you may have installed the timing chain a notch off or your old chain was stretched so much that the new chain caused a significant change in timing. With an issue like this, always start with the basics...

    Distributor Issue:

You have to use whatever your distributor requires. The instructions for it should tell you whether it needs battery or reduced voltage. Different manufacturers have different requirements.

    Carburetor heat shield

Vapor lock generally occurs before the fuel pump. Fuel under pressure vaporizes at a much high temperature than fuel under a vacuum. Fuel line routing along the exhaust is the usual reason for vapor lock. An electric pump as close to the tank as possible will provide pressure for the length of...

    Winglets!!!!!

Thanks for sharing this, Spike, very interesting. I'm a pilot (not current) who used to fly into back country landing strips along the South Fork of the Salmon River, in Idaho. Most of the STOL (short take off-landing) light aircraft have turned down wing tips to keep the air under the wings and...

    Question on painting dash bezel?

I just did one coat on the trim. I'm also replacing the speedometer and fuel gauge and adding a tachometer. I can't use the original chrome trim bezel for the fuel gauge, so am adding the trim on the new fuel gauge, with Molotow. It came out Ok with one coat, but not happy with it. I suspect the...

    Question on painting dash bezel?

I used Molotow chrome markers for refurbisihng the chrome trim on my center stack and shifter bezel. I haven't done the radio bezel yet, but will at some point in the near future. The lettering will be a little more challenging, but should be doable with just one cup of coffee for breakfast...

Loud Violent Clunk When Shifting FMX Into Gear. Any Transmission Experts?

Changes in vacuum changes the control pressure, when the vacuum modulator is functioning properly. Lower vacuum results in higher control pressures. No vacuum, as in vacuum modulator with blown diaphragm results in continuously high control pressures.

    Easy question, I hope

That is just the bezel, you also have to get the bulb socket: https://eclassics.com/eclassics-1967-1977-ford-bronco-brake-warning-light-socket-pigtail/ https://eclassics.com/eclassics-1967-1977-ford-bronco-brake-warning-light-bezel-lens/ I also found this when I was looking for one, is actually...

Replacing externally regulated alternator with one-wire internally regulated alternator

The Ford 3G alternators are an easy upgrade and just require 2 wires, easily serviceable or replaceable. Post #5 in this thread has diagrams that show stock regulator wiring and 3G upgrade wiring. https://7173mustangs.com/threads/alternator-and-regulator-wiring.40107/#post-409306 DB Electrical...

Can I start the engine briefly without the alternator?

I would be careful about connecting the yellow wire directly to the battery terminal on the solenoid. If you have a short someplace you could fry some wires, or even start a fire. I would connect a 30 amp fuse inline.

Can I start the engine briefly without the alternator?

The fat yellow wire provides electricity to the inside of your car, ignition switch, lights, gauges, etc. Check the voltage at that point. You may have a fusible link that is fried.

Loud Violent Clunk When Shifting FMX Into Gear. Any Transmission Experts?

It doesn't take much wear on the differential bearings to dramatically increase the backlash. Harsh transmission engagement with a small amount of backlash will make a noticeable bang.

    Lets build a Map Light!

I used a simple on-off switch with a diode so that when the dome light is turned on the map light also comes on, but when the map light is turned on the dome light does not come on.

    351c q code rebuild

+1 on selecting my own. Most of the options have to do with the sizes, like pistons and rings standard or bored, crankshaft standard or ground. The upgrades are oil pump standard or high volume, and freeze plugs steel or brass. If you're going to rebuild what you have without any machine work...
