351C 4V Valve and valvetrain replacement

With the bevel at the edge of the cam bearing hole and on the bearing itself, there is no way to completely cover that hole even if the bearing is installed completely flush with the front of the block. Once the camshaft is installed as well as the retainer plate and timing gear, all of the...

351C 4V Valve and valvetrain replacement

Been a while since I got mine. I'd just PM a moderator or admin and ask them nicely. I'm sure they'll hook you up.

    Starter removal

Well, I'll be damned. Now that you mention this, it dawned on me what those old curvy wrenches were for. I never actually owned one but would see them every so often and wonder about them. I always just used the long extensions. From my dealings with this in the past, The type of starter...

351C 4V Valve and valvetrain replacement

The shop could very easily correct the issue bit it would require a new cam bearing galley plug at the rear of the engine. They could try and do the job from the front but it would not guarantee a straight bearing installation. If you are not building a high revving engine I honestly wouldn't...

Common Sense 351C break in steps

Really? Some people choose not to learn to be nice. Although the first google search thread turns up "Break-in Oil | Full Synthetic Motor Oil & Protection for New ..." you still gotta try and rub peoples noses in the fact that they got tripped up on some wording.

Will you be installing your own cam bearings?

Common Sense 351C break in steps

Yeah, back in my machine shop days we would always throw a hone through the lifter bores on every block we would do. It only takes about 3-4 minutes to do all 16. The customers always thought we were giving them a little extra service but it was more of a CYA measure so there would not be any...

    Cleaning the headliner?

Many methods to try. I only caution you on using a mild cleaner. My original headliner was in good shape but after cleaning with some Bleche Wite the threads started deteriorating soon after and unraveling. Live and learn.

Common Sense 351C break in steps

Modern engines are in a whole different realm of metallurgy and precision machining. I took apart a 35k mile coyote engine from a F-150. If I didn't know the engine was used I'd of sworn the bearings were installed, and the crank only laid into the saddle and it rotated around a few times...

351C 4V Valve and valvetrain replacement

If the engine is only to be a mild build and not see the high side of 6500 rpm's. Just build it with traditional good quality bearings and pay attention to the camshaft thrust clearance.

351C 4V Valve and valvetrain replacement

x4 I do not believe he has a legitimate answer. I must apologize to Mystic Fish(the original poster of this thread). Sorry it was hijacked. I will attempt to start over. Unfortunately, finding a truly informative thread about a good camshaft choice for our 351c engines is near impossible...

351C 4V Valve and valvetrain replacement

Barnett, what is the name of your business? I'd like to look you up. Your polarizing comments have been noted and dealt with on other websites. In recent years you have been banned from at least 3 mustang oriented and different forums for exactly what you are doing here. You don't seem to...

351C 4V Valve and valvetrain replacement

Not for a flat tappet cam. https://540ratblog.wordpress.com/2013/06/20/motor-oil-wear-test-ranking/ Their racing oil is decent but their break in oil is at the absolute bottom of the list.

351C 4V Valve and valvetrain replacement

When you are reassembling the engine ensure your lifters install without binding in their bores. I recommend a Cloyes timing chain as they always seem to fit perfectly. I used some Pennzoil high mileage 10w30 and a bottle of Prolong oil additive for my engine break-in. I based it on the oils...

351C 4V Valve and valvetrain replacement

I suggest you contact the custom camshaft company who made the one for my engine. It may be more roudy than you want for your engine, but honestly it runs better than the specs would lead you to believe. They will build you a camshaft to support whatever drivability and power specs you would want.

351C 4V Valve and valvetrain replacement

I have my own spring tester. So far I have not found a single factory valve spring to have over 80psi at a 1.80" installed height. If they are 40+ years old they have no place in a engine running todays camshaft profiles. The valves are not worth the cost of them breaking either. You can get...

TKO 600 with Hydraulic Clutch on the way!

I suspect it wasn't cheap. The 600 adds a bit more money vs the 500 in supporting hardware required. But it should be great once it's all done and running. Just take it easy and follow the transmission break-in procedures to the letter and it will be a very good transmission. The ones who...
