can someone identify this headlight socket....

seems like a basic question, but I am finding many things on the car that have been changed over the years.  I need new headlight bulbs, so identifying this will help. it seems like I can just replace the bulb, but I know in same cases you have to replace the entire bucket, not just the bulb...

what is the best way to tap into the negative side of the coil for aftermarket tach?

i used a ring fitting but it was not tight enough to the coil stud at first so I crimped it in place. the factory friction fitting still has plenty of bite.

nothing broke today...and deep purple may have helped

funny you mention power steering, I think my power steering is intermittent at the moment. I just noticed it today, sometime hard to turn the wheel at slow speeds, other times easy. not sure what could make it intermittent. maybe an issue with the pressure from the pump. I need to keep my...

nothing broke today...and deep purple may have helped

ok so after I completed the wiring project and broke some wiring things and then fixed them, I put about 80 miles on the car.  nothing broke today while driving !! no steering problems, no loose camber adj nuts, no holes in the timing cover, no overheating !!  I actually was able to grind...

what is the best way to tap into the negative side of the coil for aftermarket tach?

there are these right angled friction fittings used all ready the car....the other I found today by accident, aka the neutral safety switch ...I prefer nuts and bolts. these things are old and don't stay put

oops, lost all electrical power, what did I break?

thanks for identifying it. that would explain why the car is completely dead when its disconnected

oops, lost all electrical power, what did I break?

found the issue with car not starting. there is a right angle fitting that connects with a bunch of other wires right above the battery. can someone tell me what this wire is? I now know that the car won't start without it being connected...maybe its old school theft deterrent ?

what is the best way to tap into the negative side of the coil for aftermarket tach?

I am adding an aftermarket tach.  the factory tach works fine, just hard to see. I expected to find studs with a nut on the coil, but it uses right angled pressure fit caps.  with a stud and nut, adding a tach wire would be easy.  I'm not sure the best way to tap the neg wire with these...

oops, lost all electrical power, what did I break?

I have a multimeter, but didn't use it....so my ground tested ok on a probe, but I don't think it was good enough. so I ran the aux fuse box ground to the battery and now its all working as it should. what sucks is the location of the aux box. way up on the firewall, extremely difficult to get...

oops, lost all electrical power, what did I break?

ok, I'm an idiot. while I was thinking about what to do, I installed the new battery I had recently bought. car starts fine. BUT, I think I introduced a short or something yesterday that was causing the battery to drain overnight. not sure what because the new fuse box was wired main battery...

oops, lost all electrical power, what did I break?

I was installing a painless aux fuse box, something I have done before.  I had the box wired in, and was getting the 5amp fuse on the box to light up when tested, but none of the other fuses were lighting up with a probe.  somewhere along the line I must have introduced a short.  now with the...

    replacing stock 2.75 gear with a 3.5

there is no question that I have a Mex Mach 1, but I have not actually confirmed that the original rear-end is still in the car.

    replacing stock 2.75 gear with a 3.5

I've read a lot of posts on this site about various gear ratios, rpms at highway speeds, driving styles, etc. I have a stock 73 Mex Mach 1 4spd.  I would not call it slow, but I want to accelerate faster.  I will not be racing or doing burnouts, but I like being the fastest car away when the...

    higher output blower motor

my 1978 F150 has factory AC with R34 conversion. it gets cold, but the airflow volume is low. I just assumed it was just the way it was in 1978. for my 73 mach 1, I am planning classic auto air aftermarket kit. for what it cost to get installed, it better blow like a MF.

    Admiring your stuff at 70MPH

so the camber on the front passenger wheel got jacked because the camber adjustment nut was loose. the car recently had a new steering box installed and an alignment. the shop says they didn't touch the camber nut when the did the box and alignment, but will "take care of it for me".....hmmm.

is anyone running chrome bullet side mirrors?

its a 73 Mexican Mach 1. I really have no idea what mirrors they may have used, but I'd feel better about replacing them if I knew for sure they were incorrect. here are 2 more pics.

is anyone running chrome bullet side mirrors?

@oms, that may be what I need. it my case its the drivers side that's in the worst shape, but I need both sides. also, I don't have remote controls on the door panels, so don't need the cables. in the pics below you can see my "fix" using plumbers putty. the other pic shows the internal...
