    1972 Mustang Coupe 302

I had a similar problem with my car (except for the excess fuel issue) after sitting for an extended period of time without driving it. It would idle with the choke engaged but would stall the minute the choke came off or I put it in gear. I spent weeks messing around with float adjustments...

Spectra Premium F32A fuel tank/fuel vapor separator fitment

That looks exactly like the Scotch-Brite material. You would have to really pack that in there in order to get it to fit. I personally didn't like that approach. I tried trimming it and did not get an acceptable result either. I feel that the chance of small metal particles getting into the...

Spectra Premium F32A fuel tank/fuel vapor separator fitment

What ever it was, they didn't have to be concerned about the effects of Ethanol. That stuff seems to attack everything to some extent. I'll just roll the dice and go without a filter media. If fuel gets in there somehow I'm pretty convinced that it will evaporate quickly.

Spectra Premium F32A fuel tank/fuel vapor separator fitment

I had the same thought about the strainer. My concern there is that the screen is so fine that over time would some sort of residue build up on the screen and clog things up....who knows? I did try cutting up the Scotch-Brite scrubber with some tin snips and didn't like the result. As with the...

Spectra Premium F32A fuel tank/fuel vapor separator fitment

Great observation on the tabs! I zoomed up on Bobs photo and can see how the tab positions radiate out from flush to the hole and migrate out incrementally on the remaining two. Missed that completely. I bought the Scotch-Brite for the heck of it. You are right, they are about 2 1/2 dia. x about...

Spectra Premium F32A fuel tank/fuel vapor separator fitment

Thanks for your input. What did you use for filtering media or did you just leave it out? I was considering the Scotch-Brite SS scrubber as mentioned in other posts on this subject. Thanks again!

Spectra Premium F32A fuel tank/fuel vapor separator fitment

It's hard to tell from these online photos, but the vapor separator does have 3 die cast tabs and the tank only has 2 slots in the top of the tank. Even the Spectra web site shows 2 slots. I have not dropped the old tank to see the old one but every vapor separator I have seen, old or new had 3...

Spectra Premium F32A fuel tank/fuel vapor separator fitment

I just ordered a new Spectra F32A tank that is due in tomorrow. I was reading through old threads this morning and saw where someone else had posted a question regarding the install of the vapor separator but didn't get a response. I have the same question so I hope you guys have an answer. I...

    New Gas Tank, which one?

I'm finally to the point where I am going to replace my gas tank. I know that the most recommended unit is the Spectra Premium tank. I need some clarification on which model specific for a convertible with a 302. I did some research on their site and it looks like the F32A is the correct one for...

    Bad fuel tank sending unit.....AGAIN!!

Thanks Brian. That sending unit is the gift that keeps on giving! I didn't expect the float to last forever, but 9 months... Come on! The last one lasted 20 years. Hopefully the one from "All Classic Products" is of better quality. Good to hear from you buddy...

    Bad fuel tank sending unit.....AGAIN!!

I contacted "Desert Classic Parts" yesterday (they do restorations on these units) and he told me he only uses floats from "All Classic Parts" for his restorations and has very good luck with them. Only a couple of failures over the last couple of years. I'm going to call ACP today and talk to...

    Bad fuel tank sending unit.....AGAIN!!

It is the Dorman 692232 unit. Does anyone have any comments on where to get a good quality float. I paid to have the unit installed and don't want to be out another $250 6 months from now. I know I could do it myself, however for health reasons I am physically unable to do do the job.

    Bad fuel tank sending unit.....AGAIN!!

In need of some expert input on this please. Once again I have a sending unit issue. I had the OEM unit replaced back in Sept. with a Doorman unit. It worked fine until the last week or so. I suspect that its the damn float again. I first suspected an issue a couple of weeks ago. I knew I had...

If and when you get serious, I have a really nice restored 72 vert. that I am planning on selling soon.

    Questions?

I agree with Hemikiller. Years ago I owned a bone stock, unrestored 66 and experienced the same thing. Your natural instinct is to place the selector into the first position which is wrong. Once I placed it in the middle position it shifted as it should. Go the easy route first.

    Production numbers

Does anyone happen to know how many 1972 Mustang convertibles were built with factory air? I've seen references that an A/C convertible is somewhat rare but it would be nice to know how rare in the overall scheme of things! Thanks

Help with factory A/C belt tensioning

I tried that, but still can't pull it tight enough to reduce enough slack that the squeal and belt slap stops. I bought a 24 inch long breakover I plan to try to see if I can get more leverage. Thought maybe someone might have tried something I hadn't thought of. Thanks for your input.
