    Tim's 1973 Mach 1 rebuild thread - it's done in 2023 on it's 50th birthday!

Spring arrived late this year but the Mustangs birthday had to come - 25th April 1973! So only a few weeks... But I hit the bell right in time so I could drive a few hundred miles with pleasure and fun. The Mustang passed the German inspection like a pro with zero faults and there were none...

    Tim's 1973 Mach 1 rebuild thread - it's done in 2023 on it's 50th birthday!

Now a long, dark and wet time followed: it poured rain week after week after week - the weather was so heavy for many weeks and the Mustang had to wait once more...

    Tim's 1973 Mach 1 rebuild thread - it's done in 2023 on it's 50th birthday!

You were right - the stripes were missing! So I added them in a late winter night - with the heater on in the garage, a heat gun, some soapy water, tape, a sharpie,a straight edge and patience - voila:

    Tim's 1973 Mach 1 rebuild thread - it's done in 2023 on it's 50th birthday!

Installation of watershields of door and rear quarters after completed setup of window glass, added insulation in the rear, installation of the door panels and rear panels, combination of the rear speakers with some more old school looking speaker covers over the roughly cutted holes from the...

    Tim's 1973 Mach 1 rebuild thread - it's done in 2023 on it's 50th birthday!

Misc installation - weatherstripping underhood, restored original 50 year old wiper motor, wipers and wiper stops, removal of the clutch pedal helper spring (with the removal of the clutch pedal and the spring bracket) for easier pedal-backmovement (diaphragm clutch), new pedal bushings, new NOS...

    Tim's 1973 Mach 1 rebuild thread - it's done in 2023 on it's 50th birthday!

Its all about the gaps! I finished sheet metal installation, all the trim and weatherstripping. For aligning hood, doors and fenders I invested 40 hours alone. Doors are closing now as easy like new with only a light tip - perfect.

Next was filling the doors with all the cleaned, greased and lubed inserts + window glass, restore the window felts (used 3M velcro plush tape) and to set the windows. Besides I did cavity sealing and filled the whole car or better said every fold, gap and other cavities with a special mixture...

    Tim's 1973 Mach 1 rebuild thread - it's done in 2023 on it's 50th birthday!

Time has gone by fast and now it's a big difference between now and then. The biggest news are that the Mustang is finished until early spring and I put a few hundred miles on it since then. Without any problems and much fun. But first I will add some pictures about the further assembly process...

Went to start my 73 Coupe today...

Love to see your great cars running again, Ken! Don't be happy to still hear of the health issues of your wife. No one can know your feelings other than one that came through the same thing... So I wish you both to stay still strong, live every minute together and don't give up any hope!

Wow, I like your plans of your new project and how it turns out step by step! You do some awesome work on replicating the small details! As a German guy I have always wondered about the Shelby Europa, read every story, article and picture about them available. But I never have seen one in...

    advice about cylinder head

As others said I would say you are fine with some good used OEM heads. If you were a bit faster on your demand I could have sold you a pair of good original 4V closed chamber heads. But now they are gone. From time to time there are some in Europe, otherwise you have to look in the USA. Have a...
