    Wiring harness oddity.

That (wire number 469) is the power feed for the seat belt warning, runs from a purple-white wire (#520) at connector 27 to the red-yellow hash wire (#640) at connector 156 or 157 (depending on year). It can be seen in the 1972 wiring diagram (available in this forum in the 7173 Wiki) at zone...

    1972 FMX shift linkage grommet

That's the correct one. Ford used them for many years on many different transmission shifters. The OEM ones ranged from brown to black.

    Disc brake conversion options

The Explorer swap seems to be a good way to go, some of the forum members have done it. The best posting/tutorial about it appears to no longer be available, after the server upgrade a couple of years ago. I believe the author of it was Turtle5353. Maybe he can repost it or you can PM him. It...

    Determine Value of 1973 Mach 1 With a 351M (Actually a 351C!)

My guess is that the first timing chain they gave you was for a Windsor, a common mistake at parts counters. Where did you get them, and what were/are the part numbers?

Good price for a 351 block and 4v heads?

They are not easy to find. I paid $1,000 for a Q code 4-bolt engine, a couple of years ago, that had been stripped down, had standard bore, and I drove 180 miles (one direction) to pick it up. I'm like you, wasn't interested in anything other than the block and heads, had to take the crankshaft...

    3 Inch Exhaust

There's some information on exhaust pipe sizes in post #4 of this thread: https://7173mustangs.com/threads/new-leafs.44427/#post-447338

    High Idle Speed

Did you check the idle adjustment on the secondaries? Double check the linkage and return springs, make sure it's not hanging up on something, including carburetor linkage contacting the intake manifold.

    3 Inch Exhaust

I agree, back pressure is not needed nor wanted in a performance application. I believe that where this myth started was people reducing back pressure (i.e. as with headers and/or removing exhaust pipes) without retuning the carburetor. The faster flow can result in a lean condition, which...

    dual exhaust and gas line

Not only do gear clamps look cheap, they are dangerous. The rubber creeps out from under the clamps, leaving the clamp loose and allowing fluids to leak out. When that fluid is gasoline all kinds of bad things can happen. A good example of this happening is gear clamps on radiator hoses when the...

    Kill switch system? Your thoughts?

I agree with others. Too much risk for an electronic device of unknown quality to control the entire electrical system. There are other mechanical methods of doing it, cheaper and more reliably. And, you are correct, if your hood doesn't have a lock on it just a couple of minutes is all it would...

Lab Seat Belt conversion for front seat

There have been several discussions about seat belts. Here's one example, by searching the forum you will find more: https://7173mustangs.com/threads/i-just-installed-yet-another-set-of-front-seat-belts.43478/

    Don C's Project

I decided I would start a thread for my Mustang, been ongoing, of and on, for years. Right now there's no engine in it, right front fender is off, the interior is stripped, front bumper off, and grill off. I have a 4-bolt block and Q code heads at a machine shop. Getting the block bored out to...

    Help Locating a Dead Short

You need to go to the top of this page and click on 7173 Wiki and then download the wiring diagram for your car. You're going to need to put on your detective hat and start tracing wires. The gauges receive their power on a black-light green dot wire from the instrument voltage regulator...

Speedometer Gear gets mangled after a short drive

One other possibility is that your cable is slightly too long and when the housing nut is tightened up it is forcing the cable into a bind. It appears that something is causing a lot of stress on the teeth on the gear. The output shaft gear should not be getting chewed up by anything, and...

    Tire Size Suggestions

The standard size tires for 429 equipped Mustangs was F70-14s. F70-15 and F70-14 were also standard on Bosses and optional on most other Mustangs. The closest width to the F series tires is 225. The spreadsheet in this thread will give you more information on the tires and tires sizes, Scroll...
