    My 1973 project daily driver

Machine shop just called they have the block rough bored. Unfortunately I am out of town for work till next weekend. When I get back I will be doing a mockup to check clearances on the crank and rods. Then back to the machine shop for final honing and balancing. I might actually get the short...

More parts coming in. Block machining should be done mid March. I am hoping to have the engine back together and running by early April. Wish me luck!

As for typical driving 50/50 highway to stop and go traffic. There will be drag strip time during warm weather on the weekends. Innovators West is two hours from me and I am finding more information on them. Anyone know of someone running their stuff? Is anyone running an aluminum flywheel on...

Checking back in, my scat stroker kit came in early. So now I am getting the piston coated and will do a mock up to check the rod clearance and make sure everything will fit before final honing and block cleaning. I do have a couple of questions. Looking for suggestions on harmonic balancer...

Happy new year everyone! I am one step closer 99% of parts for the engine are ordered. Unfortunately the scat stoker kit is delayed until March. Engine block is at the machine shop they will have to wait till march for the pistons for the final hone. Will have to get new push rods for the...

Merry Christmas everyone! I have been traveling for work more than planned and will be doing it again next year, so progressing is a little slower than planned. I am almost done prepping the block to go to the machine shop. I am adding the moroso oil restrictor kit, cleaning up the oil ports...

    1973 manual trans starter?

Are you wanting a stock style starter or high torque? If you want a stock style, any auto store will have one. Jegg’s , summit, CJpony will have both stock and high torque starters.

Thanks for the info Hemikiller. I have been looking at truck flow and chi heads. The max speed and speed masters price make it temping but from what I have seen you are better off starting with a bare head and doing all the work, which doesn’t really save you a lot in the long run. As for my...

    My 1973 project daily driver

I have some of my questions answered after tearing down the engine. The camshaft was replaced but the bearings were whipped out. The camshaft would barely turn by hand and get stuck. 5 of the pistons had broken top rings. The rod bearings were down to copper. So the plan now is a 408 stroker...

Cleveland Crush, you are running an aftermarket block correct? Anything you would differently or definitively do again with your Cleveland build?

I appreciate the suggestion as you are correct the LS and 600hp is possible. I am not a big LS fan as there are many ways to make the same power with fords. It Is a great engine, but has be come the 350/350 of todays time. The 429/460 family of engines can make a lot of power without a lot of...

I know it’s possible to do the 500-600 all motor, but you are correct there will be sacrifices to be made to street ability. I may go with a power adder blower or nitrous to have it a little more street-able. If I stay with the original block it will be a 408 stroker build. My thoughts were...

So I pull the engine and trans out today. Found out I have a number matching transmission as well. My next decision is do I want risk the block and transmission hot rodding them? Goal is 500-600Hp. Or do I get a different engine and build it up instead? What is everyone’s thoughts?

    Please help. Starter keeps running

It sounds like the starter is getting stuck on the fly wheel. Pull the starter and test it and verify that it extends out and back when the power is removed. AutoZone or any other store can test it as well. Once the starter is ruled out of being the problem then the next step is validating it’s...

Well on the plus side I did verify the block is numbers matching for my car so that’s a plus. Took my closed chamber heads to the shop to be cleaned up, may take a month to get them done due to them being so busy. Now on to other things to figure out and fix.

I will have to take them in the morning with more light. The walls are pretty clean very little lip mostly carbon. The rock is at least an 1/8 of an inch of movement the other three pistons are solid with no noticeable movement. My guess is they honed the block and put the stock pistons back in...

    My 1973 project daily driver

Well I am back at it again after traveling for work for almost a month. I am pulling the heads and checking the cam now. Car runs well at higher rpm, but at idle will backfires when you give it gas fast or will suddenly die if just left running. Once it is above 2500 it acts fine. Just found...
