Ones as good as the other IMO but why not just put the Ford unit in it ? Just as trouble free and if you are ever 50 miles or more from home and something stops working you can buy any part for it at any parts store.

Just the dipstick is different. Many years ago I put 6 qts of water in a 351C oil pan and measured the depth. Then measured a rod throws depth out of the block and there is enough room for 6 qts.

What likely happened was whoever did the valve job did not get all the valve tip heights set equally, within .005". That causes all kinds of trouble with a nonadjustable valve train. I would go back through and check all of the lifters preload with a dial gauge on a magnetic stand so you know...

Yep, they aren't a very good head. If someone does buy a set though get them bare, all the parts they put in them are junk.

Time to find a new "mechanic" This guy knows nothing about engines. I'd even think twice about letting him do a oil change.
