    My Zinc Plating setup

Been out of town, but I'm home again so I'll get my setup detailed here and do some samples. It's pretty simple and honestly, pretty fun and rewarding

    My Zinc Plating setup

I just started doing some zinc plating. It's been covered a bit before by some folks, but not sure if anyone's done a full end-to-end, all-in write up. I would be glad to, but not sure if their is enough interest, so posting this first. If there's enough 'thumbs up' or responses, I'll do a...

    Kevin's 72 Convertible era-correct project ... you've all inspired me

Vinegar, with some salt added. Use 2 zinc plates, one on +, one on -, and get the bath full of zinc ions floating in the solution. After a couple hours, it's ready ... then you use + on the zinc plates, and - on the item you're plating (after a lot of cleaning and acid wash). The more you...

    Kevin's 72 Convertible era-correct project ... you've all inspired me

Zinc Plating in progress Did my first few items and I like how they turned out. Distributor hold down and shock tower nuts ... easier things to start with. I'm working on the actual shock top cover now, and it's a little more work to get it clean and being a bigger part, it taking more time to...

    Kevin's 72 Convertible era-correct project ... you've all inspired me

Zinc Plating Well I've been working on a few items in/around the engine bay and lots of the bolts were mis-painted or had some surface rust, so I did some research and I'm doing some zinc plating on my own to get things looking nice again. I don't have all the items yet, but Amazon is helping...

Wild new computer controlled AFR system for carburetors.

Heard from Joe @ Carb Cheater Got in touch with Joe, and here's the email I sent asking if we should over-richen the mix, and his reply. What's funny is that my post here last week, I wrote "Hell, I'd love it just for the real time data!" ... and that's pretty much what he said too. I'm going...

Wild new computer controlled AFR system for carburetors.

Saw the videos and I just wrote them to ask a few questions. Really interesting technology, and the cool part is it only an add-on. It can 100% die and you arent stranded. It simply regulates an air bleed into the mixture to keep the fuel ratio in check. The only question I had is that it...

Distributor ... and now the oil pan Bought a Pertronix kit, so I wanted to clean out the distributor guts and learned tons about the springs, curve and more. See more about that HERE if you are interested. I reduced the mechanical advance and have a lower "all-in". Happy for that as it used...

351C IDLE SPEED PROBLEM, FMX CLUNK?

if you suspect a vac leak, there is the old school way of using a spray, like carb cleaner, and lightly spraying the edges of the intake, the carb-to-intake seat, etc. If the engine RPM comes up, you have a vac leak. Like others have said, check hoses and ports too (PCV valve, heater vac line...

    Distributor advance info - SOLVED!

Swapped in a 10L, and lighter springs...so I should be around 28 all in (assuming 8 at idle). The donor distributor had 10L and 15L, so I used that. It also had G1 and G2 stamps on the weights, but both came in at 12 grams, so I'm not sure what the 1 vs 2 is ... but I used that pair instead...

    Distributor advance info - SOLVED!

Thanks for the explanations guys! I've done some digging and what you're showing makes good sense! Obviously that's a 13L, not a 3L. So that's 26 degrees at the crank, plus whatever I was using for base (8-ish?) and so my all-in would have been 34, which is why my 11:1 was pinging!! Going to...

    Need battery info!

An obvious note, but whatever you do, be sure the posts are correct. Keep that positive terminal toward the firewall/solenoid ... You probably are already all over that ... but the number of Mustangs that I've seen with those crossed up makes me cringe ... having the positive terminal so...

    Distributor advance info - SOLVED!

Rebuilding my 351C distributor, and it's got numbers on the lower internal advance mechanism as well as the weights themselves. Just curious if anyone knows what they mean ... out of curiosity and if I wanted to tweak them later, to know what to look for. I have a few donor distributors, so...

    Long time owner ...

Love the Shelby (both actually). At the Mustang shop I worked at a long time ago, one of the show cars we would detail prior to the show was one of the last Shelby's made ... a 1970 GT350 convertible. Yours reminded me of that one. I started a project thread, so my work is officially in...

    Kevin's 72 Convertible era-correct project ... you've all inspired me

My father-in-law had an old Radio Shack all-in-one unit - radio, turntable and 8 track recorder. I wired my ipod into it and managed to record newer music on an old 8-track blank tape. My son liked Nirvana, so I had Smells Like Teen Spirit jamming on the 8-track taking him to school ages ago...

    Kevin's 72 Convertible era-correct project ... you've all inspired me

Radiator in New Leland all aluminum radiator. 3 rows. Everything lined up and it came with lower clips for the shroud. Would have preferred a non-auto, but it's what I bought a while ago and going with what I have. Old one had leaks on the side reservoir and was paper thin
