Just going to add to the rear gear question, I have a 351, C-6, and 4.11's with a 26 inch tall tire. The rpm's are around 3300 at 70 mph. With the original 3.25's it was around 1900 if I remember correctly.

Crite's restoration in Ohio lists a "swap kit" for 429-460 into 71-73 Mustang for $244.00. Chuck

I have a 460/c6 and 3.50 gears and I would not go any higher that.

Its been a while I know, what are your RPMS like at 65? I finally got around to pulling the diff, going to order gears soon..

according to the wallace racing calculator I get:

1.1 ratio (c6)

25" tire

3.25 gear

@3000rpm id be at 68mph and with 3.50s id be at 63.75MPH---- These just seem high for some reason compared to what people are saying in the real world..

My slicks are 28x12.50 and my street tires are 255/40/17

Ive already been planning on switching my street tires to my 66 convertable and getting some chubby rear tires for the mach1--lord knows she needs em:)

id like to be in the 2500 range at 65 which I would need a 2.70 rear and I can already tell you I dont want that. I should just shut up and do the 3.25.... but then again in the future id like to go with a t56 6 speed trans.... then id probobly want my 4.33s back with the over drive.... and here i am back on the fence:) So 3.50 or 3.25 .....

I have 3.50 with a C6 and a cleveland. It's a little high for highway cruizing. Real world I am hitting the 3000 plus RPM range at 65 mph and if I get higher than that I really don't have a 'passing gear' anymore. I would opt for the 3.25 if more than 25% of your use is highway and you drive it a lot. If you only put 1000 or so miles on it a year, I would go for the 3.5

My plan, and I am really close to hitting the button, is to install a gear vendors overdrive.

A 255x60x15 is 27.1 tall. A 275x60x15 is 28.0 tall. Use that to calculate. 28 tire, 3.5 gear, gives 2700 RPM assuming 0 convertor slip (not likely). If you are running a 460 why worry about 200 RPM at cruise. Get the 3.5. Just an opinion. Chuck

I am running an FMX with a 3.50 gear and 26" tall tire with a converter that stalls around 3200 rpm which at 65 mph is just about where I am at. I am in the process of swapping in a C6 and will be trying an 1800 rpm stall converter. I will report back the rpm drop (if any) at cruise.
