I'd like to check the spark at the plug wires BUT just crank the engine and NOT have it start.

Is this possible to do?

I'm guessing I would first need a remote starter button from the S terminal on solenoid to the battery.

Then what?....

If I have the dizzy and coil connected to create the spark, isnt the engine going to want to start? Disconnect gas line, maybe??

Thanks!

I guess you would have to take all the plugs out to

make sure it doesnt fire.

However after the car has sat for a couple days I would

be surprised that it would fire without pumping the throttle

a couple times.

I crank my car until I have oil pressure then pump the throttle

to get it to fire.

What I did when I was troubleshooting for spark was I removed the distributor, put key on (ignition to run) and then spun the rotor in direction of normal rotation using the distributor gear. It will simulate the motor running without it actually turning over, works pretty well. You won't need the remote start switch and you can remove all the spark plugs line them up in a row and spin the rotor. You will see whether all the plugs have a spark at one time, make sure that the plugs have a good ground. It's more work since you have to remove the distributor though.
