My Car
71 Mustang coupe 302
73 Mustang Convertible
I have a 302 engine but it looks like I have a more extensive engine gauge wiring harness. The car is a 73 Mustang Convertible but the engine wiring harness has the coil, oil and temp wiring but also has the A/c wiring within the harness. i am looking to get a new harness but I dont see a harness for sale that looks like the one I have for a 302 motor. there is one for sale for a 351w that looks closer to the harness I have. Any ideas to which harness I should purchase or maybe the one that is in my car is the wrong one to begin with.

Are you sure that it is AC and not for the carb solenoid? The wire color for the fourth wire is likely red/yellow; if so, it is for the carb.

I don't particularly care for refurbishing engine gauge feed harnesses, as most are damaged and are very visible in the engine bay. The reproductions are good quality and relatively inexpensive.

You were right it was the carb solenoid, Trying to find a new engine gauge harness for 73 mustang that has the carb solenoid cant find it. Any ideas if they do a reproduction for a 302

Thanks

For some reason my 73 convertible has the 10/72 to 3/73 250 a/t 14289-8ac Engine gauge harness, have you heard of any 302's with that harness? Also is there a schematic for what the 14289-8ac engine gauge harness connects to? Any help would be appreciated thanks!!
Was your car an original 6 cylinder car that was converted? What is the VIN and what does the door data tag look like? Do they agree as to VIN?

I checked the Vin and its a 302< I wonder why the wire harness is different?

Some things I would check to make sure your car was truly an F code 302 from the factory. The VIN used to register your car is found on the dash pad which is unfortunately very easy to remove and switch cars on. There are a number of ways to confirm if your car came with a 302 originally vs a 6 cylinder car.

If you look under either center front fender stamped into the sheet metal above the shock tower is the partial VIN. You will have to loosen fender bolts to pull back a little to see. If this doesn't match the registration then you have an issue.

The VIN is also stamped into the engine block and transmission which could be used to verify. Other ways you can look are for the buck tag on the radiator support, the data plate on drivers door, build sheet under carpet.

If my car had a 6 cylinder gauge feed my first thought would be that the car was originally a 6 cylinder car that had a motor and VIN swapped.

The numbers all match, this engine gauge harness has the a/c wiring connected to it which matches the 250 harness
