I happen to know of this seller (no, this is not a plug for him) and don't trust him with a 10 foot pole, but he's too much of a flipper to bother faking something unless it already arrives faked:

List of red flags:

  • Not a Boss (DUH)
  • Repainted, could have been anything
  • '73 rear bumper, '71 Mach urethane front
  • Center gauges, but no tach
  • Engine room looks freshened up

Otherwise though - there isn't anything conclusive to say one or the other.

I'd really like to see the VIN off of this bugger.

Grille would be correct - it's the bumper that isn't.

I would love to own it...details can be fixed
Word to the wise: Don't give this guy's cronies the pleasure of a phone call. Only way to get anything on the straight and skinny is to walk out on the lot unannounced, examine it, and leave.

I'm building my own and for sure can beat the price

Describing a 429 CJ or SCJ or even just a plain old 429 2bbl from a Galaxie or whatever as a BOSS engine when it is NOT a 69/70 Boss 429 just shows how ignorant the seller is. I suppose no one ever told him Ford never made a Boss of any kind in the convertible body style but that would be a lost cause.

He buys in bulk at auctions for dirt cheap, has them shipped to his lot of junk, and has his staff throw Bondo over chickenwire where necessary (and I am NOT stretching the truth).

South Florida has taken 20 years of his junk, and we'll just have to put up with 20 more. The lot looks good from I-95 though, I'll grant him that.

You could get bumper guards in 71 that isn't a 73 only bumper.

Is that the dealer with the cable show, something like South Beach Classics, with the tall blond wife of the owner?
Bingo.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the '71/72 bumper guards taller and narrower, as seen here?

the 73 bumper had a rubber insert length ways when ordered with the protection group I think. It could be a 72 bumper, but the gaurds are definatley 73. Yes they are taller narrower and point up not down. need the VIN. I think the standard grille only came with chrome bumper thats what looks weird to me. I think the standard grille with the bumper and guards lined up with the NASA hood looks more aggressive.

Did the seller have a tv show on velocity with his wife by any chance ?

Check out the location on the bumper as well. They look like they guard the taillight panel and the others the valance. Never noticed that before.
