Hey folks,

had to share this with you. I see Windows 10 is supposed to be coming around July, if i'm correct.

MAN!! I have just literally got my desk top computer at home set up for Windows 7, and is running like a well tuned V8.

WHY DO THEY DO THIS TO ME?? WHY DO THEY DO THIS TO US??

God help us, as we seem to be caught up on this hi tech merry-go-round, that keeps us dipping into our pockets all the time, just to keep up with the mad hi tech race to where, who knows where.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::

I'm getting too old for this S------

It's weird to say this using a computer but I HATE COMPUTERS!!!

It's not actually making a thing easier or faster.

Only today I wanted to put a music album on my iPhone and I had to give up after 20 minutes because I had to go to work.

I hate iTunes even more than I hate computers in general. That's one of the reasons I'd never buy a Mac because I'm afraid if it's anything like using iTunes I'd throw it out the window within 15 minutes.

Windows computers on the other hand will miraculously stop working correctly after 3-4 months even if you do not have malware or viruses and don't clutter it with downloads and stuff.

Mine is a year old and will freeze for no apparent reason or it'll take forever to open Firefox and whatnot.

As much as I like the Internet and this site in particular I somewhat wish I could go back to 1985 and stay there as far as computers go.

And we had hair metal and Madonna was still hot as hell. :)

Thanks guys for your support, but this is what gets my blood boiling -

The big issue for me and i'm sure countless others around the world, is that i have invested a fair amount of my money, effort and time buying software, installing it, getting to know how to work it and becoming familiar with it, and getting it fined tuned so it works for you without problems and glitches, and iron all the bugs out. That's an amazing achievement in itself! I've also spent hundreds of dollars in hiring the services of computer techs to help me solve and settle in new system's problems that did not work properly etc, etc. Resetting up my new Email system for Windows7 was an expensive nightmare for me, just to quote one example.

Yes, all that takes time, effort and money. Then, just when you reach this stage, BAM!!! these clowns build a so called better mouse trap, foist it on the world public, and leave you out to hang and dry. This is exactly what happened to me with my Windows XP systems i owned a few years ago. At that stage, i was running four computers at home in relation to my hobbies and business interests. But what killed me was all the software and systems i had in place, and worked well for me, became obsolete overnight as i could no loner properly use them with Windows 7. They were not backwardly compatible. BAM!!! My computers became boat anchors, and all that time, effort and money went down the drain. As you all know, Microsoft pulled the plug on updates and supports for XP, so that left the world with nowhere to go, but to move on with Windows 7, 8, and Vista was a complete joke and failure for the world's consumers as well.

God knows what to expect with this Windows 10 deal, but i have a nasty feeling history is going to repeat itself again for me and many others, as we once again, do the musical chairs, hi tech tango dance in one way or another.

Freakin' unbelievable is all i can say.:mad:

Running win7 with no issues and will keep it.

Don't know much about win10 except it is free

for now. Got my mechanic a tablet running win8.1

and he gets along just fine because he has never

owned a computer before. Two things I found about

win8.1; it will not support an external hard drive or

"floppy" as we once called them, nor does it support

POP3 authentication servers which makes it difficult

to setup an email account so you are forced into gmail

or Yahoo etc. I did work around the mail issue as my

provider will also recognize IMAP authentication protocols.

I was also able to load a program from a CD by transferring

it to a USB stick then onto the tablet but that won't always

work. Maybe win10 will fix this.

My first experience with a computer was a Sperry Rand using

core memory, tape drive and a line printer.

I also hate computers. Such a waste of time setting them up. Kind of the point of this thread.

Everything I have is Apple except my desktop computer. Might be going that way eventually. I used to be all into building computers, upgrading them and getting all involved with different software trying to make a better machine. Now I just want it to work and not have to mess with it.

July 29th is the release date for Win 10. The upgrade is free if you are running Win 8 or Win 7. I would wait on upgrading to see if anyone has install issues and you know there will be a mad rush the first day. I have a Win 8.1 laptop and hate it so this will get the update and I'll post how it goes. I am told that a lot of codecs are removed so if you watch dvd's it won't play unless you buy a player. MSFT used to included this and pay the licensing but are no longer doing so. If I remember correctly media player is removed.

In my world you buy a special 6000$ piece of software lets say it's version 3.0

6 months from now 4.0 comes out, there is no difference between 3.0 and 4.0(seriously) but the company only sells 4.0 so new people are forced to buy 4.0. The 3.0 people cannot open 4.0 files because the company just said you cannot, so I have to fork out another 3000-6000$ for 4.0 or get a step up from 3.0 to 4.0. A few weeks go by and the cracks for the software appear allowing 3.0 users that could not afford 4.0 to open the files resave them as 3.0 and keep going.

Then the companies got smart and the cloud came out. Now new customers have to sign up with the cloud at 300$ per month. So you now rent software for 3600$ a year plus the cost of upgrades which is another 1000$ and the software is ala cart. So that means it has no functions like 3.0 and 4.0 had and you have to add features at an additional 100$ Per feature per month. That means to maintain original features could be an additional 2000$ a month. At the end of the year you add up your account and you have spent 10,000$ per year instead of 6000$ per year before. 3.0 and 4.0 become coveted versions with additional cracks to keep you able to open new versions. New versions now spit out every couple of weeks not months or years like before. This is the new version of drug dealing.

It is murdering small companies, there is no way out, you are stuck if you want to stay in business.

I use windows 7 will not be upgrading to anything for a long time.

It is all about making the money. Remember they are all businesses. Unfortunately micro suck was first to market in a big way (with ideas stolen from IBM). I view computers as very expensive adjustable wrenches, good for a lot of things. I also expect them to be reliable as that wrench. The closest thing to that I have found is Mac. Still quirky but, reliable.

I run XP at home and use many applications and programs from circa 1998! Why? They suit my needs, I know how to operate them, they don't interface with the Internet so they can't be hacked, and why spend more money learning a new learning curve? I also have many programs that are 16 bit based that simply will not run on WIN7. I databased the entire MCA Mustang Times (35 years worth) on FoxPro, but that is an old program that is incompatible with WIN7 even in compatibility mode. Fugg it...

I'm sticking with my land line phone and writing checks rather than mobile smart phone banking. The **** works well and is less liable to be hacked.

I'm a luddite, and proud of it. Now then, will you kids get off my lawn? NOW!!!

Installed Windows 10 tonight on a Win 8 laptop which took about an hour and it was really an easy process. Once I told MSFT to upgrade there was no interaction required until it was done and the laptop was up and running Win 10. The laptop rebooted 5 times during the install and I could have left and come back later with the whole update done. Didn't lose any data and it's nice having the old windows desktop again and not dealing with all those tiles. I am happy to have Windows 8 off this laptop now.

I reinstalled win 7

Then went to 10

There were apps that could not be uninstalled in 10 that were installed by the same user in 7.

I rolled back to 7. I was really amazed that worked.

Still on 7 for now.

Got another tablet because the first attempt at an upgrade was interrupted when my mechanic shut

down the computer in the middle of the upgrade, not good.

I guess you have to wait for Microsoft to inform you an upgrade is available.

Just keep automatic updates turned on and wait.

I would rather use DOS 1.1 than Windows 8.1, it's bad.
