My car is on the way to me finally. One of the first things I wanna do is remove the rear bumper guards. Do I have to remove the bumper to get them off?

It's tight but if that is a 73 (stripes) you can remove them with the bumper on. There will be holse in bumper where the bolts went through.

The 'first thing I would want to do' is drive it! Nice looking car.

Those rear bumperettes look like they are mounted upside down.

Should look look this

It's a 71 that someone put 73 stripes on. Hopefully I can remove the guards without taking it off. Maybe them being upside down means whoever put them on was too lazy to remove the bumper.

71 and 73 bumper mount is totally different due to the crash requirements. Might have put a 73 on the car. The tail light panel is also different. I think those guards are right for a 71 72 and turned right if a 71 72 I believe. Why would you take them off you have a fear of bumper guards, lol. Also note the position related to tail light in and out I think they are the correct 71 72 on the car.

I tried to upload a couple pictures but for some reason will not work today.

I can understand the need to take them off. It was the first thing I did to mine when I hit it. Remove the front and rear bumper guards and it cleaned up the lines nicely.

I think on my 72 I had to take the bumper off which was no big deal. Had to use flat headed screws (what do you call those with bare heads that don't have holes for a screwdriver or anything) with a nut inside the bumper to plug the holes if I remember correctly. It's been 16 years now so my memory has faded.

You will need a nice set of chrome flat head (carriage) bolts to replace the bolts that hold the bumper guards, bumper, and the bumper brackets together.
