Does the gauge have a wire on the back of the cluster powering it or does it get its signal through the circuit board?  Anyone have a pic of the back of the cluster showing the connection?

It gets its power from the constant voltage regulator, fed through the circuit board.  The other side of the gauge goes to the fuel sending unit in the trunk area.
Your harness powers the gauge then since the circuit board is no longer used?

Yes, from the CVR.  It should be a black/green wire with a 90* connector.
